Guest guest
Just use the milk, scald it, then add the plain yogurt and follow the rest of the instructions to keep it warm for several hours. Some people use a gas stove with the pilot light on, others set it in an oven with a jar of hot water, or in a food cooler with a jar of hot water. Some have set their yogurt on a heading pad, and covered the containers with towels to keep in the heat. Another option is to use a slow cooker on the low setting. The rest of the ingredients, besides the milk and a little bit of yogurt to act us a culture, are completely optional. Have fun. ~Fern - " earthmothergypsy " <earthmothergypsy <herbal remedies > Monday, August 25, 2003 6:50 PM [herbal remedies] Re: Looking for a yogurt recipe without............ > what kind of recipe do you have? > love.. granny lee. All the ones I have call for the powdered milk, which I didn't realize until today. So, before I make some, I have to find a better way--without the powedered milk. lol!!!! ~A <snip> And yet another: CHRISTINE'S YOGURT By: Christine Roelke 1 qt. whole or skim milk and add 1/3 or 1/2 cup powdered milk (optional for a firmer or pudding-like consistency). Scald, then let cool until it feels lukewarm to the touch. Add vanilla (1 tsp.) and honey (less than 1 tsp.). Mix in 2 to 3 Tbsp. plain yogurt. Let sit on warm surface for 2 to 4 hours. Cover the containers with a cookie sheet to keep warmth down where the yogurt is.
