Guest guest
A child can live on pediasure, it has vitamins, minerals and fiber in it. But unless there is a medical reason why they cannot eat solid food, I wouldnt recommend more than an occasional can of it. I had a daughter who had cerebral palsy, and could not eat solid food. She lived on pediasure (banana cream & chocolate & vanilla...the strawberry was nasty) for 14 years. We had to cut her from 6 cans a day to 4 cans, because she gained too much weight. (4 cans provides about 1000 calories) Since she was in a wheelchair, and not at all active, she did not burn many calories. She could not walk, or even use her hands to hold a Barbie doll or a spoon or anything. (She passed away a year ago in May, from complications of pneumonia.) Pediasure provides the vitamins and nutrients a growing child needs, BUT it has a lot of sugar and oil in it, and the child will gain weight if they drink too much. I don't remember how old the child in question was, but if under 5, WIC will provide pediasure with a physicians prescription. ....windflower --- Sill <thesills wrote: > Another option is something like Pediasure, but to > be honest I don't know if > there are things that are bad in it since we have > never used it.
