This is the outer covering of the shell and the nut which the shell and nut pop out of when they are ripe. I use the hulls broken up and use an equal portion with the rest of the ingredients = a handfull of broken up hulls, a handful of garlic, a handful of . . ., etc. They all get pulverized in the blender together.
