Guest guest
For your information... i would stop the fructo.......... and do a cleanse.... I think your liver may be trying to tell you something.....A phone call to Doc might just be in order also. Please read this: Avoid Probiotics with FOS "Fructooligosaccharides, more commonly known as FOS, is a class of simple carbohydrates found naturally in certain plants, such as Jerusalem artichokes, onions, and bananas. Virtually, all of the FOS added to probiotic products in the United States is chemically manufactured. A Japanese process is utilized in turning white, bleached cane sugar, by the action of a fungal enzyme, into FOS - a sugar polymer that our bodies cannot digest. "FOS, know in Japan as Meioligo and in scientific terms as neosugar, is used as a sweetening agent, flavor enhancer, bulking agent, and humectant. As a low-calorie sucrose-replacement, FOS is used in cookies, cakes, breads, candies, dairy products, and some beverages. FOS is also added to some Japanese health foods to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. "In 1990, Coors Biotech, in an effort to introduce FOS into the food chain of the United States, prepared a GRAS (generally recognized as safe) petition to include FOS as a human food ingredient. As several years of FOS-safe food sales are needed before this approval, the probiotic market was chosen as an easy, nonthreatening way to get the product 'out there.' The health food industry became an ideal test market. "The addition of FOS in probiotic products is becoming a common practice. Many probiotic manufacturers claim FOS is beneficial in that it feeds friendly bacteria. Those who manufacture high-quality probiotics, however, do not believe in using FOS. Instead, their products require one important component - the valuable supernatant, which naturally and specifically provides food for the bacteria. "Prudent probiotic manufacturers are concerned with the safety issue of FOS. According to a study conducted by the Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) of the Food and Agricultural Organization and World Health Organization (FAO/WHO), the consumption of FOS may cause intestinal problems, such as bloating, abdominal pain, and copious amounts of gas. "There are a number of additional reasons why some manufacturers of high-quality probiotics do not add FOS to their products. They are: "FOS is manufactured by chemical synthesis. The ingredient is, therefore, not natural, but a chemical additive and may pose toxicological dangers. "FOS is a sugar derivative, therefore, those with a yeast infection should avoid it. "The stability of FOS is poor. The industrial production of purified FOS is a problem and still in the developmental stage. "FOS is inert in the mouth and small intestine because it is not digestible (similar to olestra). It is digested in the colon by the bacteria and may, therefore, change the metabolic activity of the colon, resulting in abnormal functions. "FOS stimulates the growth of Klebsiella and possibly other pathogenic organisms. In one study, Klebsiella has been associated with the autoimmune disease ankylosing spondylitis. "FOS is known to be species as well as strain specific. In other words, not all beneficial bacteria like the FOS diet."
Guest guest
Hi Suzie, Too weird! Was told to include FOS to rebuild " good bacteria " ...following the PREVPAC prescription I also had to take another antibiotic for bacteria in lower colon & another medicine for yeast there also!...all this following a stool specimen analysis, cleanse, & blood work. I imagine I had pretty much killed everything in there...good & bad...so, took the FOS & acidophilus! As to your other post & Wendy's comment...Sjogrens has been ruled out, no arthritis. Do not sit in front of computer or strain eyes in any way, all day. Mild allergies to some pollens in spring & some chemical sensitivity. Re: food & supplements...have not changed eating pattern & have taken same basic supplements for years. Was taking prescription Clonazepam [which can cause dryness] but have been off it for several months & no change is evident. I do take an aspirin a day plus extra Folic Acid & B vitamins for heart problem & previous stroke...other than than no ongoing prescription meds. I did have Tissue Mineral Analysis done through hair sampling & the only thing obvious there was very high Strontium [NOT Strontium 90...elemental Strontium] level which is effecting my calcium utilization...the doctor who ordered this & the stool tests is a clinical pathologist [previous medical & lab director of SmithKline Beecham Labs, as well as being an enviormental medicine specialist. He also does not know how or why this " dryness " came on so suddenly... I have racked my brain & can think of no other contributing factors that may be accountable for this problem...I sure do appreciate your input & the information you provided re: FOS...will stop that immediately. Many thanks herbal remedies , Suzanne <suziesgoats> wrote: > For your information... i would stop the fructo.......... and do a cleanse.... Guest guest
Try the Panther Piss every day. What kind of drops are you using? The more you use over the counter the dryer your eyes will get. Drink lots of clean water and up your fruit intake. No salt for a while. Aloe vera juice would be a good added supplement to your diet as well. Janet - reiki3gal herbal remedies Wednesday, August 06, 2003 2:23 PM [herbal remedies] Dry eyes, nose, & mouth...need help, please! Hello All...really do need some sound advice or clue as to how to deal with this problem. It started back in April & has gotten pretty bad, especially my eyes. Very red all the time, scratchy & they hurt. Use drops several times a day....nasal passages & mouth very dry also. Have been chewing sugarless gum & sucking mints to keep mouth moist. I asked my doctor [internist] & she "doesn't know" what's wrong...said I could get plugs for eyes to keep them moistened!!! Didn't mention mouth or nasal dryness! NO opinion on "why or what" the cause might be!I had to take PREVPAC prescription back in April for H. Pylori bacteria & that is when this started...Dr. says there is no connection, but I wonder...did the 'scrip kill good, as well as bad bacteria & could that cause this problem? In case it did...A nutritionist suggested probiotics [live acidophalus] which I started last week; no change yet...also taking "fructooligosaccharides" Nutra Flora to promote growth of healthy bacteria & Udo's Omega 3's Oil capsules.Any suggestions or clues that might lead me to a diagnosis & permanent solution would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks & BlessingsFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Guest guest
The drops are very mild I'm told - 0.2% hydrxpropyl methycellulose - lubricant...no preservatives or other ingredients. I will try cutting them out or use only once in the A.M. when it is so bad. I'll get the ingredients for panther piss tomorrow. I drink 1/2 my weight in ounces of water a day, but do not eat much fruit. Lots of veggies, but never been a big fruit person...other than apples in the fall :-) I do use 1/2 a banana on my Kashi cereal, but will try to eat more. I do have Aloe Vera juice & will start that as well. thanks for the info & tips, Myrna herbal remedies , " Dragonhealer " <dragonhealing@c...> wrote: > Try the Panther Piss every day.
