Guest guest
Hmmm. I am still looking for 'recipe' to reduce high cholesterol - not sure if I have it though LOL. For high bp, try Yerba Mate tea and Pau D'Arco combined. It has worked for me esp for the distolic pressure. - erika herbal remedies Friday, August 01, 2003 8:46 PM [herbal remedies] cholest./high blood pressure hello! i was wondering what herbs are best (and easiest to find-otc or in vitamin-type form) that help in lowering cholesterol and high blood pressure. my husband and i have recently (and dramatically) changed our diets to more veggies, and absolutely no eating out. i use no salt and very little oil or butter when cooking. this change was brought on by a concern over our both having high blood pressure- and the scary thing is we are both young- i'm 31 & he's 28! we want to nip it in the bud before it's too late. high bp and diabetes run in both our families, so we are frightened. we want to add a supplementary routine to our new diet regimine. so far we are taking garlic and fish oil- is there anything else that will help? anything will be appreciated!!!!! erikaFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Guest guest
The Pau D'Arco I use is a tincture. I add 3/4 drops to my brewed Mate tea but I think you can get Purple Lapacho (tea) which is essentially the same thing. If you use Lapacho with Mate, I am assuming that you brew them together. Be careful with the Lapacho/Pau D'Arco since too much of it will upset your stomach apparently. I use the loose Mate (Argentinian vs Yerba Mate which is Brazilian I think) tea and I brewed about three cups in the morning, let it cool, strain it, add the tincture and drink a cup each three times a day. My distolic pressure was around 100-110, after few weeks on the tea and stop eating salt altogether, it is now around 75-85. Good luck with it Erika Calypso

Guest guest
Erica, here is part of what i have in my data base: fight high ldl with this tea: The Cholesterol Tea: 1 tsp. each roasted chicory root and lime flowers 1/2 tsp. each fenugreek seeds and ginger rizome (roots) 1 qt. water Combine ingredients in the pan and bring to a simmer. Cover and steep for about 20 minutes. Strain herbs. Drink 1 or 2 cups a day. The formula can also be made into a tincture using the same proportions.. If you prefer tincture, take 1/2 to 1 dropperfull a day. ~~~~~~~~~~` Garlic, plenty of it, in the diet helps to keep cholesterol down as does tumeric, skullcap and ginsing.. note however that Ginsing is a blood thinner and if you are already taking a blood thinner or may be going in for any kind of surgery, it could cause a problem of bleeding. I take a niacine delayed tablet but it is a bit dangerous, however i am quite old and my liver is still very good and it is not giving me any negative side effects. so with me it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other whether i go with a heart attack from clogged arteries or go with a bad liver : D PS..i do use garlic , skullcap and milled flax. am due for a blood test in a few months to see how much that is helping. I did have 304 before the niacin, and last time i took test i think it was 265 or 256, cant' remember for sure. lee ~~~~~ herbal remedies , " erika " <eemal> wrote: > hello! i was wondering what herbs are best (and easiest to find-otc > or in vitamin-type form) that help in lowering cholesterol and high > blood pressure. my husband and i have recently (and dramatically) > changed our diets to more veggies, and absolutely no eating out. i > use no salt and very little oil or butter when cooking. this change > was brought on by a concern over our both having high blood pressure- > and the scary thing is we are both young- i'm 31 & he's 28! we want > to nip it in the bud before it's too late. high bp and diabetes run > in both our families, so we are frightened. we want to add a > supplementary routine to our new diet regimine. so far we are taking > garlic and fish oil- is there anything else that will help? > anything will be appreciated!!!!! erika

Guest guest
Hi Erika, You shouldn't take niacin when pregnant! Niacin and its flushing effect can release toxins into the bloodstream, which your baby would get also! Niacinamide is okay, as it's had the active ingredients taken out which normally cause the flushing effect. But not sure how effective it would be then for your purpose. love, Lisa - erika herbal remedies Saturday, August 02, 2003 7:10 PM [herbal remedies] Re: cholest./high blood pressure thanks for the recipe! just curious as to how much niacin is beneficial? i take prenatal vitamins which contain niacin, but is it enough to make a difference? erika
