Sheila, if your stomach is burning try less cayenne tilll your body adjusts... Cayenne will heal ulcers, etc.... No there is no substitute which would be as good...... just put in less and over time you can add more...

Perhaps there is a milder substitute? I'd be willing to sacrifice the peppers and substitute, say, twice as much of...oh, I don't know, chocolate? :)
