Lots of people only use hot on boils. Sometimes they can really be stubborn though. My brother had one on his arm that was quite large and painful. Took me and his football trainer 2 weeks to get it to drain. What finally did it was adding the cold alternately to the hot compresses. I think it was simply too swollen to get a good blood supply in there to come to a head, so the cold shrunk it just enough and the heat brought the blood - boom! He felt so much better lol!

[herbal remedies] compresses

Janet...I've been using only hot. Should I alternate them one right after another? I've just drawn an epsom salt bath and am hoping that will help too.HugsMicherbal remedies , "Dragonhealer" <dragonhealing@c...> wrote:> It is possible, but would be better to drain the garbage out, as you well know :-) Have you been using hot and cold compresses?> > JanetFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. one of my nephews came to visit us and was covered with chigger bites.

then many of the chigger bites turned into boils. We took him to Dr

and he said that it was caused by his immune system over-reacting to

fight the poison from the chigger bites. he gave him some salve and we

administered it and it didn't seem to help. i started putting hot

packs on them and when they were " ripe " so to speak, drew them out

with a coke bottle or a piece of thread placed on either side of the

puss head and twisting the string. this way there is no bruising so no

spreading of bacteria. I didn't have comfrey nor aloe at the time and

had not become very familiar with herbs, so i rinsed the areas with

camphophenique and some times with hydrogen peroxide. They began

clearing up quite well. i think his system then built up some immunity

to the chiggers as that was the last time he a bad infection in all

the years he came to visit.

Thanks Janet...it finally opened up yesterday...how disgusting! I'm

going to continue the hot/cold compresses to keep it cleaning out.

It was nauseating though! Adding the cold after the hot I feel is

what really did it...along with the epsom salts! I'm just happy to

not have a golf ball on my shoulder anymore! EWWWWWWWW

Ouch...I'll bet that was really painful for the little guy...glad he

has built up a resistance. I think that this boil was a gentle

reminder (well, not SO gentle!) that I need to revisit my diet and

make sure that I'm getting enough of the nutrients that I need! I

have become somewhat lazy with my diet because I've been working a

p/t job (which I'm leaving in two months) and it conflicts with

making my homemade, healthy meals. My body is just trying to tell me

that I need to get back to healthier eating.
