Monchello,

I am not sure I follow your question... good preservatives? tinctures are made with alcohol..(preferably everclear or vodka - 100%).

poultices are dry herbs until you mix them up, stored best in glass jars away from sunlight in cool environment. www.specialtybottle.com is a good place..

Hi Monchello,

Tinctures do not need any preserving. They are already preserved with the alcohol or acv when made properly. As for poultice, these are usually made up as needed and therefore need no preserving either. However, if you are wishing to make up an herbal poultice containing several herbs then go ahead mix it up store in container and label until needed. Then just take what you need, add the water or oil or whatever and apply.

The best alcohol to use for tincturing is vodka or everclear. Make sure it is minimum 100 proof vodka though as this will give you a 50% alcohol dilution which is great. Using everclear will give you a 96% or so alcohol dilution so you may end up diluting with distilled water to tone it down some. Tinctures, theoretically, will last indefinitely. Two years is a really good rule of thumb to go by, as you will most likely use up most of it by then. Unless you are making gallons that is.
