Guest guest
Yes I do. She won't stay on for more than 5 min at a time, I try to keep her awake by pestering her but that only works for 60 sec or so. She has gained some weight but so did her brother at this age. She is sleeping worse and worse. I thought she was just gassy but I have cut out Dairy, Chocolate, Hydrogenated Oils, and cabbage products. It's clearly not the problem. gayekyc1 [gayekyc1] Tuesday, July 22, 2003 8:27 AM herbal remedies Re: [herbal remedies] Failure to Thrive Remidies Lauren, Can you be more specific? Guest guest
I wouldn't worry about how long she sucks. But how long does it satisfy her? How long does she go between feedings? This can be very stressful on you, both physically, mentally and even emotionally, if she is wanting to suck at closer intervals. It is causing you both stress...From reading your other post, I can see you are letting this get to you...You need some true blue support when it comes to this. Having doubts that you are giving her the proper nourishment can play havoc on your already stressed being...And being stressed, tired, depressed can cause problems with the production of and the quanity and quality of the milk. Sometimes just simply waiting a little longer each time you feed the baby can help to some degree. Is there someone who can help and give you a break? If they can bathe, rock, somehow occupy the baby so you can try to Very Gradually get back to a schedule? And use this time to relax, rest, nap. You will find the less tired and stressed out you are-both you and the baby will start to get back on an even keel. Extra, Good nourishment is very essential too. Oatmeal, brewers yeast, whole grains, you need these to provide energy for you and provide quality milk for the baby. Gaye Yes I do. Guest guest
With all 3 of my babies I breastfed and went through the same thing...feeding only a few minutes....they would fall asleep...awake in an hour or so wanting to feed again...It is exhausting. And the exhaustion can cause these other problems...That is why it is important to get someone to help you out...Don't try to be superhuman...Do it for yourself and your baby. Now the thrashing and crying thing happened when I had mastitis and the breast wasn't putting out enough milk. The glands stopped up. Do you have any soreness, redness or swelling?? To THAT I would say feed feed feed...Pump your breast, keep the milk glands producing. HOt wet cloths on your breast will help if this is the case. Warm baths, soak your breast in the warm water..massaging with a very light oil such as sesame seed oil...if you don't have the oil, just use warm water with a little baking soda in it... Or have you been giving bottles and missing feedings? If so your breast milk may be declining...another reason for the thrashing and crying...same as above, if you want to continue breastfeeding--get the milk moving again...It is better than formula. BUT, if you do decide to switch to bottles, please don't feel guilty, or less Motherly. Sometimes this is our only alternative. PLease let me know if I can answer any other questions...like Erin said we all have these feelings at times, we are human. Guest guest
Any of you moms have little patience for others kids prior to having your own? Not that you didn't like kids but that you didn't want to interact with them if you didn't have to? I'm childless and have thought twice about having them many many times. I'm not sure if I have little patience because I'm not around kids most of my days. My patience is more of a internal thought process rather than something I portray with them as I encounter them. I've always thought if they were my kids I would feel different and have all the patience time and love in the world for them. I'm 37 and know that if I do have a child my heart right now tells me I would birth at home w/ no help and I would homeschool and all that nurturing stuff that the best attentive moms must do. I'm scared to death tho that I may be kidding myself and would have that seperation syndrome that is being discussed in this topic. Guest guest
Pam, I Had very little patience for other kids before i had my own...I Once took a babysitting job and before the day was up, I Knew that wasn't my cuppa...I handed them back with all there stuff and said, " No Thank You " ...lol Then when I got pregnant with my first child, I worried and worried that I would feel the same as with those kids... But the minute she was born, I Got the Mothering Instinct, Bigtime...I was just lucky I guess. I do feel sorry for folks who have blues, depression, bad nerves and an Unmotherly personality. I had a cousin like this, she practically gave her parents the baby, and done her own thing...Now she wonders why he is closer to the Grandparents... I did see your comment about wanting a child before it was too late...a week or two ago. I wish you luck in your endeavor, if this is what you are trying for...Who knows how it will turn out...But I think with your attitude, if you are blessed with a child you will be a good Mom... Now I'm not saying that other Moms aren't good ....they just have problems they need to solve....And that is what we are here for... BTW-Ginseng I believe...helped me conceive with 2 of my pregnancies...I was taking it both times for energy and poof, I was pregnant...IT MAY just be a coincidence, who knows...I just might have been very fertile!! Guest guest
PT, it is very hard for me to deal with kids that aren't my own IF they have no upbringing. And, I have three of my own right now. I have two nieces that are never corrected or disciplined and I have no patience with these girls, even though I've been around them most their lives and love them too death. On the other hand, I have another niece and nephew that I have at my house all the time. My kids aren't perfect and these aren't either, but they aren't taught to back talk (no kidding) and they don't argue with me when I tell them they can't go outside because it's too cold, raining or wet. They don't huff at me that I'm not their mom and can't tell them what to do...stuff like that. At times, my kids STAND on my last nerve, but they have been taught not to act like hoodlums...I hope this makes since even though you don't have any, yet, of your own. Is it ill mannered kids or just kids in general you're talking about? I'm not a good one to give advice on being a mom, I don't have anything to go by, and I'm just learning myself. Guest guest
Lauren, Sounds like you have your hands full!!! A break will be good for you...and the baby. Is Shelby someone who can help you out too?? I had the problem with large breasts too..glad the midwife was able to help with the techniques...AAH yes we will try everything... Maybe some diet adjustments could help the 2 year old to calm down?? I have been babysitting my 3 Grandchildren for about 3 years..and the number one (2)things I have noticed that affects their behavior is chocolate and sugar. This may not be what the problem is with yours, but just thought I would throw it out there!!! Allergies can also affect a kids behavior...some signs are dark around eyes, reddness on the top tips of ears... The youngest of my Grandchildren (who is also the worst when it comes to behavior...lol) will start school this year. The teachers will have their hands full...LOL. Hope I've been of some help, anytime you need me I'm usually around to see my red light come on..lol. Much love, Gaye In reply to: I am so grateful to you all for your support and advice. Guest guest
Lauren, Sounds like you need to put her on a formula. Perhaps she simply hasn't the energy to breastfeed (my son had this also) Here's THE perfect baby formula - homemade: 1. Put about half a cup of whole barley in a piece of muslin 2. Tie it loosely to allow for expansion 3. and place it in the pot containing 4 pints of water 4. boil slowly for 6 1/2 hours with pot slightly vented so steam can escape 5 mix the formula using a ratio of: 15 ounces of barley water, 10 ounces of homogenised milk, 3 ounces of corn syrup 6 keep the formula cold until feeding time 7. heat a bottle to 98.6 F The amount of syrup can be varied depending on the baby. The pot should not be aluminium. Barley water will turn very, very pink. This gives about the right consistency. Per Doc's writings (in the files) the barley preferably is sprouted first. And of course, ALL ingredients should be certified organic - the water being distilled water. No child I have ever known who has had this formula has ever had any problem with it - no spewing back or whatever! This formula contains ALL the needed nutrients for a baby - makes them sleep well, and happy when awake! It is a lot of work to make, but oh so worth it! Jamie continued it as his drink even after going on solids, until he was about 3 1/2 - 4 years old. He liked it that much! I had to practice with making it for a while, and discovered you really did have to boil it very very slowly! So use the smallest element on your stove you can find. Hope this helps. love, Lisa - Lauren Bastow herbal remedies Tuesday, July 22, 2003 4:51 PM RE: [herbal remedies] Failure to Thrive Remidies Yes I do. Guest guest
There has got to be something better to do for your son. ( I bet doing some looking into food allergies and seeing if he has issues with this would be a good idea. Changing your diets to eating whole foods and cutting back on processed foods would also be a good thing to start. Our health and the health of our kids is so important to have a good quality of life for all. Dr. Doris Rapp has a good website about allergies and I am thankful to have found her books long ago, for I had a child with food allergies (back when we ate foods with food dyes in them, hydrogenated oils, processed foods, and such). Her site is: www.drrapp.com She also talks about how foods and other allergins can cause issues with mood, " good child-bad child " type things, not just physical symptoms like hives. Also here is a site that also talks about food allergies with a different spin to it that is really informative. Search the archives on the site! www.feingold.org/home.html You might just find these life savers with high spirited children and with children who have trouble with eating, colic, etc..... Hope things keep improving and that all works out well for you ds. ~A herbal remedies , " Lauren Bastow " <lbastow@s...> wrote: > I hope so except now my 2 year old is facing hospitalization for > constipation.
