Guest guest
- Immediate Senate Action Needed - YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO PASS THE CHILD MEDICATION SAFETY ACT OF 2003 ISSUE: Senator John Ensign (R-NV) has just introduced the Child Medication Safety Act of 2003 in the Senate! The best thing you could do right now is to write, email and call your own Senators to ensure that as many Senators co-sponsor the bill as possible and pass it through the Senate. (You re getting this before there is even a Senate bill number!!)BACKGROUND: On Wednesday, May 21, 2003, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Child Medication Safety Act of 2003, by the overwhelming margin of 425-1, sending it to the Senate. As written and if signed into law, school personnel would be legally prohibited from requiring that a child take any psychotropic drug under the Controlled Substances Act as a condition of attending school or receiving school services. You are encouraged to write your Senators to get them to co-sponsor this bill in the Senate. Although a lot of education on this issue has taken place with members of the Senate, more is NOW needed.ACTION NEEDED: If you haven t already, go to http://www.congress.org and find YOUR two Senators by typing in your Zip code, and get their contact information. If you have not already, we encourage you to write to them on this issue. These are the key points regarding the legislation Parents should not have to choose between drugging their child with psychiatric drugs or keeping them out of school, nor should parents be threatened with medical neglect by Child Protective Services for not drugging their child with psychiatric drugs. This is a national problem, not an isolated incident. The bill will help rehabilitate the dialogue between parents and teachers which has been harmed by teachers being forced to act as mental health clinicians. Parents need their rights safeguarded so they can make informed decisions on the health and educational needs of their children. That is one of the primary reasons why passing the Child Medication Safety Act is so important. If there are any personal stories that you are aware of where parents were forced to have their child take psychiatric/psychotropic drugs let your Senators know. It could even be a neighbor s child, a relative s, etc. Send the written letter, but more importantly, ALSO Fax it, Email it and Call each of their offices to follow up to make sure they got it. ALSO: FAX a copy of the letter to one of your Senators with a cc: to: Senator Judd Gregg, ChairmanSenate H.E.L.P. Committee644 Dirksen Senate Office Bldg.Washington, D.C. 20510Fax: 202-224-5128 Just so you know, several psychiatric front groups have been fighting to stop these pieces of legislation claiming the coercive situation in schools relates to only a few. This is not true. Your help is needed NOW!! Much love, Doc Ian "Doc" Shillington N.D.505-772-5889Dr.IanShillington
