Louise,

Welcome and I would say you came to the right group. First off you might want to search the files on soy... and get away from it... Secondly, make yourself some total tonic (in the files under DrIanShillington)... it is good for you all over... and third, I suggest you call Doc... it is a free call in the files.. He is a great naturaopath and can better tell you what and how with all you are on and have going in your life with your health.. There is also a recipe for Total Nutrition which would be good for you... but do give Doc a call you won't regret that call. He can also tell you how to go about getting off all those meds without harming yourself.

Glad to have you aboard... you will learn much here.

I am a morbidly obese woman, 46, who has recovered from stage four ovarian cancer with three grapefruit sized tumors. I had both chemo and radiation (all in 1991.) I am a Strong willed Leo with four Scorpio risings. (Hmmm... that is a rather redundant sentence...

I ended up RAPIDLY gaining a HUGE amount of weight in spite of eating a fairly balanced diet. (My creed is... If you can't wash it, don't eat it... I call it Louise's Raccoon diet.) I literally doubled my weight in six months or less. My "then" doctor insisted I was "merely overeating."

What I didn't realize, and my doctor missed is that my thyroid and pancreas were badly damaged by the radiation and chemo. In fact, I had never heard of such a thing and (I guess neither did he.) Due to being so ill, I was on state aid, which meant I was limited to the really old town doctor who had completely missed the cancer. He was over 80 years old and still practicing medicine.(It was found by accident and someone stepped forward and paid for my surgeries by an talented oncologist)

I am in Washington state after moving back from Arizona and now have a new doctor. I walked into this young female doctor's office and the first thing out of her mouth was "My God! How long have you been diabetic?" (She had not even picked up my chart...) I had a glucose tolerance test and she was SO right... Moreover the three month test suggested that I had been diabetic for a very very long time. (Did I mention that I was chronically anemic and at death's door too?) My sugars were right out the roof.

When I asked her how she knew, she said she could actually tell from how "sweet" I smelled.

Well we have been working very closely together... I have gone from 332 pounds down to 305.8 (Having lost six in the last ten days since my prior visit) and my three month blood levels have gone from 9.3 to 8.8 to 7.9. (I am due again in August and she thinks I will be under 7.0)

I make my own soy milk, sprout my own grains, and transplanted all my garden veggies into pots to go on the move to the Big city with me (yellow squash, zucchini, beans etc.) Thankfully a have a bit of yard to work with. I am also taking dozens of buckets of the soil I organically composted with me...

I am willing to do cleansings, and have one for Candida. I thought it would be a good one to try since I have had dozens of prescriptions on antibiotics. I will be moved by the end of the month and will be unpacked enough to be able to have the space, time, and peace to cleanse by the end of August.

I am open to much and would really appreciate suggestions. I do have to be very careful as I am still very weak and VERY easily fatigued. My Chinese doctor that I go to in China Town, San Francisco refused to give me acupuncture as I was too weak. I have been drinking a special tea he blended for me... (I am not sure tea is the right word for the roots and things that I soak in a pot and drink... but the word escapes me. (That happens a lot lately...)

I am on the following meds.

Glucotrol 5mg with Breakfast.

Metformin 500mg with each of three meals.

Lisinopril 20mg with Breakfast

Amitriptyline 50mg a few hours before bedtime for nerve pain in my legs and back

Omeprazole which is generic prilosec 40mg same time as the Amitriptyline

Ferrous Gluc 324mg once or twice daily.

Vitamin C 200 mg with the Iron

Flax Seed oil capsules 1000mg (three a day If I remember.)

I walk as much as I can, (I have virtually no kneecaps, a birth defect which makes it dreadfully difficult to rise from a sit or use stairs.) I have and normally use an Ab Doer and Ab Cruncher a couple times a week and do callenetics and facercise on the other days. I would love to learn Yoga. My daughter tried to teach me, but the positions were far too advanced for me. One of the first things I will do at the new house in two weeks is to get a beginners yoga book of some type.

Well that is me and where I am at...

Blessings

Louise, You are a very lucky woman indeed, in spite of all the health

problems you have.

You seem like a very determined person. And that in itself is a good

start in the right direction.

The candida diet-cleanse sounds like a winner to me...I lost 26 pounds

on this, but some candida diets include fruits & juices. You may want to

make sure these are safe with your diabetes. Some diets depends on which

one, says not to use the fruits, yet others say TO use them because of

the cleansing action, and to boost your energy. But check with your

doctor first.

A word of encouragement:: I don't know if this applies in every case or

just certain types of diabetes, but My Grandmother was a diabetic, she

lost weight and was able to quit taking the insulin...

It does sound like you are doing a lot of good things. And I do think

your personality, openly asking for advice, willingness to try whatever

it takes, all of these signs tell me you are in a Win Win situation.

Keep up the good work, Gaye
