usually about 1-3 teaspoons of herbs (depending on dried or fresh and "strength" of tea) to 1 cup water.... for tea...

Here is a good guide...

LEAF TEAS:

Dried or fresh herbs, can be used, but , if dried, they should be kept in an airtight containers to retain freshness. It is preferable to make herbal teas in porcelain or glass containers. Just as ordinary tea suffers from being too long in the pot, so can an herbal tea. Overlong steeping can ruin a delicate flavor. If a stronger tea is desired, add more herb at the outset.

For average strength tea use 1-2 teaspoon dried or 3 teaspoons fresh herb per 1 cup of water. To steep, bring water to a boil, remove from heat, add herbs or place herbs in a cup and pour water over. Always cover the steeping vessel so as not to allow the volatile oil to escape. Approximate steeping time is 5 minutes.

SEED TEAS:

Teas from dried seeds are made by adding bruised seeds to a pan of boiling water and simmering for 5 minutes.

ROOT AND BARK TEAS:

Teas from roots and bark are prepared by boiling the cut and dried herb material in water for 10 to 15 minutes.

All teas can be sweetened with a spoonful of honey or a little sugar if desired.

Those are excellent questions, and ones I should have

thought to ask. I have a special blend that our

herbalist makes me for various things all related to

my gluten intolerance/celiac's disease. It is made up

of over half a dozen ingredients, all targeted to

different symptoms/problems.

The reason why teas and tinctures are king, is because the biochemicals of the herbs have already been extracted and are very assimilable. Powders in capsules can sometimes be next to impossible to absorb if a person's digestion is very poor or compromised> > 1. does it matter how much nettle leaf i use to make> tea (i am so used to my nice little veggie pills that now this> seems a little too "unstructured?") not sure I follow this

Dear Laura,

Your questions are not silly at all.

Get rid of the pills and capsules. The only formula I encapsulate is the Intestinal Cleanse #1, and that is because it has a lot of 300,000 heat unit Habanero Cayenne in it which most people can't handle straight. Also, it is in a 100% veggie cap rather than the capsules made from pigs hooves.

Don't get toooooooooooo concerned over how much of what you put in a tea. You won't kill yourself using these kinds of herbs, and we're not talking rocket science here. Get some nettles, raspberry leaves, black berry leaves, some mint, some licorice or fennel, some dried up orange and lemon peels, add a drop or two of cinnamon powder or throw in a cinnamon stick, an ounce or three of diced up ginger, and throw it all together and stir well. If you want to work on a specific condition, find out what herb is good for it and throw that in there too.

Try not to get to significant here when it comes to how much of what. You won't hurt yourself with this. Play with it until you find a formula you like and then stick with that. If you want to build up your liver (always a good idea) then make sure you throw in some milk thistle and dandelion root.

Last Saturday, Valorie and I went into Wild Oats (our closest healthfood store), and we decided to wander the aisles and check out the all the foods and their ingredients. We were at the deli counter when all of sudden she burst out crying and told me she had to go to the truck. I was in a bit of a mystery as to what was going on. I knew it wasn't me as I hadn't farted or created a scene (I do both ;o)

After sitting in the truck for 15 minutes, I finally got out of her that she'd been looking at the sandwich counter and had seen this big beautiful wrap that had organic lettuce in it, organic tomatoes, organic onions, and NON organic chicken and a tortilla wrap that wasn't made with sprouted grains. She was sooooo upset over the sabotage from people who should have known better. There wasn't one "fast food" snack that we could buy in the whole "healthfood" store that hadn't been ruined one way or another. Anyway, after she calmed down, we talked about just making our own and taking it with us when we travelled.

Anyway, the long and the short of it is, that you really need to do these things for yourself. There is no quick way out anymore. Even the healthfood stores have been brainwashed to a certain degree by the pharmaceuticals and the food chain here in the US.

The ultimate solution is to grow and make your own. Second best is to buy only "certified organic" and then prepare your own food and remedies.

I'm afraid it ain't gettin' any better out thar, unless you do it yourself.

Much love,

[herbal remedies] help!!! making tea from herbs

so i feel kind of silly even asking but i need help. recently i have been trying to cut down on the money i spend on herbal supplements. one great way to do this would be to get my own organic dried herbs from the bulk section of my whole foods and make tea instead of popping so many pre-packaged pills...since i love drinking herbal tea anyway (and i'm guessing this will be more potent). i went today to get some nettle leaf and all of the sudden felt very overwhelmed.1. does it matter how much nettle leaf i use to make tea (i am so used to my nice little veggie pills that now this seems a little too "unstructured?")2. does it matter what you combine...i'm going for healing value but also for taste...since i didn't know if i'd like the nettle on it's own was wondering if i could add peppermint or fennel3. is it ok to have one tea for multi-purpose...like combine nettle for allergies with raspberry leaf for my period (just an example...but you know what i mean...combining various things to serve dif. purposes)ok. sorry if these are all very silly questions...any advice/help would be appreciated.luv lauraFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1.
