Guest guest
The line that got me was comparing mandatory health insurance to mandatory auto insurance. Mandatory auto is LIABILITY only (covering damage caused to others).. what other person am I covering by being forced to have health insurance for myself? Am I paying if they catch a cold from me? I'm all for helping people who can't afford insurance or medical treatment to get it if they want it, but forcing people who can afford it but don't want it is just nuts. They are responsible enough to make their own decisions. Is the government going to declare itself legal guardian over all of us since we are obivously incapable of making them ourselves. Guest guest
I am thinking that they are wanting health insurance for liability also. Liability for hospitals and doctors that don't get paid... Don't hit me now, but I know people that will go to the doctor for pain meds like for abscessed teeth and never go back to get them fixed or pay the doctor bill. Maybe that's part of these idiots line of thinking... It still ain't right, though. Guest guest
I have a phobia about allopathic medicine and the mere thought of walking through a clinic door to see an MD sends chills down my spine. So...my employer paid health insurance is unused while I pay out of pocket for holistic health care practioners. Which is OK: I'd rather fork over the money than be destroyed for free by allopathic medicine. I work for a state government which is nearly $5 billion dollars in the red. and one place they are looking at cutting costs is making employees pay more for their health insurance premiums, co-pays etc. As a non-user of the system, and a believer that nearly everyone else abuses the system for petty things like runny noses, I'm not a happy camper. The harm allopathic medicine does is another issue on top of all that. While discussing this issue at work, and my desire to " opt out " of any health insurance scheme, it came up that my health care beliefs are considered so far beyond the pale as to be residing somewhere to the west of a far and distant galaxy. Basically, they think I am nuts to choose holistic methods over allopathic medicine. They ask me who will pay when I need expensive cancer treatments--I tell them I will have to pay because I'm sure not surrendering to chemo and radiation and that is all the insurance will cover. They ask me who will pay for a broken leg---I tell them the $500 the employer pays for my premium, set aside into a health care escrow account, would ably pay for any freak accidents. So give me the cost of my premiums in my paycheck and I'll take care of my own health. But then the problem is this: health insurance only works if X number of healthy people pay in and don't use it so the unhealthy ones can spend more than they contribute. And from a humanitarian standpoint, I'm not adverse to that---but I am adverse to being forced to pay into a allopathic only health care insurance system that I think does more harm than good. Plus, people refuse to take care of themselves and eat right etc...and if they choose to live in a way that makes them sick, I feel no humanitarian duty to take care of their self induced illness--especially when they continue on in the same way and refuse to make changes that will keep them healthy. Personally, I think if health insurance went entirely away, people would be encouraged to stay healthier. And prices would come down because no one is going to pay today's going rate. And, holistic practioners could operate on a level playing field since everyone would be paying for their own care at the provider of their choice. Guest guest
I believe, at least I know in my case, that you may opt out of the medical benefit and receive some reimbursement for not participating in their health care plan. Since the actual benefit is part of my overall compensation, I received 60% of the cost they did not have to payout for my participation. I, of course had to claim the additional income but it more than balanced out. Might be something to talk to Human Services about.
