Guest guest
Yes, Ilana I realize that it is not mandatory if you live in Canada or the US, but when you are travelling and living abroad, you must have insurance or you cannot get your visa. I pay a fat payment every month for nothing, which is a big drain on my economy. However, I cannot live here in Germany if I do not pay it, I suppose it is my choice to live here, but I wish I did not have to pay the insurance too! herbal remedies , Ilana Grostern <ilana@c...> wrote: > Health insurance ISN " T mandatory, certainly not here in Canada, and > definitely not in the US. Guest guest
Oh, I thought you were just talking about the US and Canada. I didn't know you were talking about Germany. I only know these two countries. rubytuesday2020 wrote: Yes, Ilana I realize that it is not mandatory if you live in Canada or the US, but when you are travelling and living abroad, you must have insurance or you cannot get your visa. Guest guest
I've been reading your opinions on this insurance thing, and thought to add my parents story for you to concider before making the decision. They were always middle class...stay at home mother, hard working construction worker dad...2 kids...They could never afford to get insurance, life or health. My dad is 66 yrs old, works full time, and recieves a social security check. My mother was diagnosed 3/27/02 with terminal brain cancer. She has had one craniotomy at one hospiotal in april 02...and a second (and last) one done at a different one, also april of this year. She was in the hospital for 1 1/2 months,(but is back in again now),and in those 8 days that she was home we recieves the bill for $146,980.00. For 45 days. And this is the second one! The first one is around $70,000.00. Neither of these include ANY dr. bills of any kind, nor radiation, nor chemotherapy. The process of trying to make small monthly payments to so many different people and so many different accounts is daunting to say the least. And they will never be paid off! I was also told that when my parents die, they will take anything they owned and liquidate it to help pay themselves off! Leaving me with nothing. I was also told that you can't go bankrupt when it comes to hospital bills. I don't know about that one,but if our luck continues to run true as it has been for these years,it will be. I know that even though they never had the money to get insurance, they really wish that they did. You want to know what the real kicker is???? The very damned night that I took my mom to the hospital, was the very night my dad was meeting with an insurance agent, who then of coarse could do nothing to help them. I should also mention that my mom is 63,cannot get medicare, medicade or disability all because of my dads income, the ss check he gets screws them! But he CAN'T afford to quit! So.....just another experience to ponder before you decide for yourself.
