Hey guys....got a question. I have, in the past, taken ephedra as a

tea for my asthma. I really can't stand the taste...no amount of

honey in the world disguises it, lol. So today I come up with a

brilliant idea, put it in capsules. So I ground it up, and

encapsulated it. Within twenty minutes or so, I was FLYING. My heart

was racing, REALLY jittery. I never had that with the tea. I mean, I

would get a bit of an energy boost, but not like I experienced

today. This lasted for about 4 hours before it started subsiding.

Any ideas on how much I should be putting in the capsules? For the

tea, I was using 1 teaspoon and simmering for about 20 minutes. I

figured, the capsules weren't nearly that amount. I almost took

TWO!! Good thing I didn't, lol. I don't have any sort of scale to

weigh it. What is the usual dosage?

Ephedra is a whole plan. Ephedrine is a single chemical compound

taken from that plant. Herbs are wonderfully complicated creations

and there are many things in them which create a balance in the

plant. Taking a single compound out completely changes that balance.

Ephedra is used for respiratory problems and is never mixed with

stimulants. This diet stuff of mixing ephedrine with caffine is just

a complete bastardization of what that herb should be used for.

Unfortunately, our legislatures don't understand the difference.

Further to two recent articles I found and posted on regulation for

supplements and herbal products, here is another interesting piece of

the puzzle.

I have a feeling that the effects of

_aspartame.htm>Aspartame

are being blamed on

aspartame_related.htm>Ephedra

in such a way as to 'hit two birds with one stone', so to say.

On the one hand, an uncomfortable competition to pharmaceuticals

(ephedra herb) is being eliminated and tight controls on all herbs

(and supplements) become justified, and on the other hand, by

implication, Aspartame goes scot free, having been " cleared " by the

alternative explanation of those deaths really being caused by

Ephedra.

Something to look into ...

Kind regards

Sepp

Nora,

it might be because the links are long. They go over two lines.

If on your mail program the link is not working, you may have to copy

Judge strikes down FDA ban on ephedra

*Associated Press*

SALT LAKE CITY - A federal judge today struck down the FDA ban on

ephedra, the once-popular weight-loss aid that was yanked from the

market after it was linked to dozens of deaths.

Park City-based Nutraceutical Corp. and its subsidiary Solaray had

challenged the Food and Drug Administration's ban in federal court.

Supplements that included ephedra have been widely used for weight

loss and bodybuilding, but have linked to 155 deaths, including that

of Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Steve Bechler. The FDA ordered

the substance off the market in April 2004.

Nutraceutical claimed in its lawsuit filed last May that ephedra " has

been safely consumed " for hundreds of years.

U.S. District Judge Tena Campbell's ruling, written Wednesday and

announced Thursday, overturns the ban, sends the matter back to the

FDA " for further rulemaking consistent with the court's opinion " and

keeps the agency from enforcement action against the companies.

FDA officials did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Company President Bruce Hough said the decision is about " protecting

the public's access to safe and effective dietary supplements. "
