-Molly, I am new and just learning, but Milk Thistle is

really good at detoxifying the liver, which is more

than likely loaded with all of those drugs. I feel for

you and your mom and hope you have luck!

Whatever type of cleanse you do, it can't be too dramatic... it will have to be gradual because of all your mother has been through. For starters, put her on a diet that is wheat and dairy free... other whole grains are good. Organic whenever possible. Lots of fruits and vegetables and fresh squeezed juices. Soups, smoothies, sea vegetables... etc. Watermelon is a good food for the liver, so are artichokes and asparagus. Also have her drink a lot of water with honey and lemon mixed in. Herbs that are great for liver detox are milk thistle and dandelion (it is mild, but has other benefits)... I would also do an intestinal cleanse (my mother is on a good amount of the same kinds of meds your mother was... I am all too aware at the affects it has on the digestive system)... anyway for an intestinal cleanse I would consume lots of fruits high in pectin like apples... And a blend with Burdock (mild liver stimulant, stimulates bile, blood cleanser), Yellow Dock (mildly laxative and a liver stimulant, blood cleanser), and fennel seeds (helps remove gas and toxins). Also sprinkle flax seeds on her salads or in oatmeal (after eating flaxseeds, drink 8 oz water). In addition dry skin brush atleast once a day, twice if you can. Have her take regular baths with relaxing herbs such as chamomile and peppermint. You may also want to add seaweed and epsom salt to the bath to draw out toxins. Also have her consume oily fishes such as salmon and sardines (good for the brain...), and you may consider giving her evening primrose oil.

Rose essential oil will also be great to balance her emotions during this. Same with Neroli, Clary Sage, and Chamomile. Lavender is also calming.

Herbs to help her calm down, given on an as needed basis are Chamomile, Linden Blossoms, Valerian, (Stay away from Kava for now), Hops, lavender, and Oatstraw. If she becomes depressed I don't see how a little saint john's wort couldn't hurt either. It may also be fun to make a pillow filled with hops and either chamomile or lavender.

I am no stranger to cleansing, but I can't do an all out fast because it makes me feel miserable. I am also no stranger to the world of manic depression, psychiatrists, powerful medicines... I won't give my opinion but you can only imagine what it is.

Dear Doc and Group Members,My 79 year old mother is wasting away because of 30-plus years on Lithium for Manic Depression, and due to years and years of prescriptions for tetracycline, she has developed a horrid case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), in which she is convinced she must scratch and tear at her skin to stop "the circle" that "migrates" to all areas of her body, mostly in her scalp and under her facial skin. Most of her doctors allow her to prescribe her own medications - the ignorant fools.Just recently she underwent surgery for a basketball size tumor in her uterus, which had grown rapidly and blocked her ureters and colon. Poor little lady is only 120 pounds, and she suffered for days before my sister BEGGED her to go to the doctor. By the grace and miracles only God can perform, the tumor was non-malignant. She had a complete hysterectomy, and never complained a minute about any pain whatsoever. The anxiety and trauma of the operation took it's toll, and she was scratching her head constantly and could not get any sleep. Everytime we left the hospital the nurses took it upon themselves to call her doctor(s), and before my poor mom left the place, she had been catatonic from an overdose of Xanax, zombiefied from two doses of Zyprexa, and this was all on top of morphine, codiene, anesthesia still in her system, and other various and sundry pain killers...all mixed with her daily prescribed Lithium and Temazepam, a tranquilizer. It is another miracle from God, and God alone, that she is still alive. My sister and brother live in her same hometown, and they have taken her to her psychiatrist twice since her surgery, and he has prescribed Abilify and Restoril, two more antischitzophrenic(sp?) drugs, no different from the Zyprexa that had changed her into a raging lunatic who could not control her bodily functions. I had stayed with her ten days after the surgery and had discontinued all the "new" drugs, but had to return home and was kept "in the dark" about these "doctor"(and I use that title loosely) visits. According to my dear sister and brother, I was the CRAZY one because I told Mama of all the side effects and warnings and contraindications I had read in the drug insert sheet which directly applied to her, due to her age and history of breast cancer and use of conflicting drugs. I almost had a nervous breakdown just worrying about her and wondering what would be given to her next. FINALLY my sister has stayed with her the past two weeks, and she can now see the effect of those poisons she was pushing off on her. "Thank you, Lord!" Now it's no more "new" drugs, and no more psychiatrist. My question is, how do we detoxify her from these deadly drugs?? I know that all of the antipsychotic drugs end up lodged in the brain tissue for months, and different symptoms are confirming that fact. She has tremors in her hands, worse than what the Lithium has caused, incontinence, respiratory congestion, confusion, lethargy, and insomnia sometimes, and sleepiness other times. She is very faithful in taking a daily herbal drink called Emerald Greens, and her Focus Factor, and olive leaf extract, and a sublingual B12, folic acid, and B6 tablet. (Sometimes the OCD is helpful in certain compulsions!) She has shown some progress in overcoming the severity of these symptoms, but we don't know what to expect day by day. My sister is not well-versed in herbal or homeopathic remedies -- not an information-gatherer like myself, but at least she's calling me daily to ask what to do next. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would GREATLY appreciate any help from anyone who might have dealt with detoxifying such an extremely high level of mind altering drugs.Thank you all in advance for any help!!Blessings to all,Molly G Federal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Jeez Molly. I am very happy to hear they are now open to your suggestions and hopefully on the road to improvement! What a cocktail! Phew. These drugs (and Docs) should be outlawed!

I cannot help you with suggestions as I don't know enough about such drugs, but a good reference book might be ClearBodyClearMind, which you should be able to find in your local library. It's about coming off drugs - any drugs.

As far as most things go, i would use it only to

detoxify, you shouldn't stay too long on any one thing

as then you'll begin to polute yourself with that one

too!
