It can be but also other dificiencies, yes. A build up calcium can cause similiar in nails I believe and this can be from too much calcium with not enough of the other nutrients to help it contribute, like vit D. Ift they are in nearly all (or ALL) of your nails, at about the same distance from the curicle, it definitely IS a marker for when a significant stressor happened to you (physically of mentally)--EXACTLY when you were growing that nail tissue.
