Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to the group and have been lurking for the past week or so. I've read the rules sent to me when I joined and I think this is an appropriate question. I went to an "herb store" and was recommended to purchase something for anxiety because I had been feeling as though I was about to jump out of my skin. I purchased a bottle of liquid herbs that contains the following: distilled water 38% ethanol lady's slipper blue vervain scullcap hops valerian root I researched the contents on the internet and was very surprised to read that vodka is made from ethanol and water. Is this true? The drops are making me feel much better, but is it the herbs that are making me feel better or the ethanol/vodka? Is there a difference in the ethanol put in herbal remedies and the ethanol used to make vodka? And does this particular combination of herbs sound logical for anxiety? From what I could find on the internet it sounds appropriate to me, but I'm new at this and need some advice from those of you with more experience. I have many more questions to ask you all but I'll stop at one for right now. Thanks so much, Terry
Guest guest
If it makes you feel better, in my opinion it is the valerian. There's not enough alcohol in there to make you drunk ! Valerian is a very relaxing herb. I don't know anything about the other herbs listed in the mixture. But Valerian is known for it's calming effects. Guest guest
The skullcap would have been my guess. It tends to relax me very deeply. The hops, valerian, and vervain also are good herbs for this as well. I make a tea with pretty much the same: valerian (steeped in cold water for a day); and hops, passion flower, and skullcap ( placed in boiling water). Guest guest
Hops, skullcap, and valerian are good for relaxing... the vodka is used to extract the biochemicals of the herbs which then are very assimable. I am not real familiar with ladys slipper or blue vervain... and there is not enough alcohol to affect you ... it would be the herbs that are helping you Suzi "GTTEM" wrote:I had been feeling as though I was about to jump out of my skin.
