You can certainly take too much garlic, to the point where it kills the friendly bacteria in your digestive system, which in turn will cause digestive problems. If you take large amounts of garlic for long periods of time, it is best to take acidophilus, also. Garlic is strong medicine!

Blessings on your healing,

I thought garlic promoted friendly bacteria while killing the bad,

but now I can't seem to find my references to that. One source shows

it as having 15-25% inulin content. Inulin feeds friendly flora but

not the unfriendly.

This is from http://www.muvsgarlic.com/Garlic.html

" In the digestive tract, garlic has the uncanny ability to destroy

only the undesirable bacteria, and not attack the system's normal,

beneficial intestinal flora. "

I know that's what Dr. Christopher taught too.

Maybe it changes when talking about " too much " ?

Melanie,

Raw garlic would be much better than what you are taking. You probably are not taking as much as you think you are......

The coated capsules do have the effect of getting into your Small

intestinal area better though. Thats why they are coated ;) But

yeah, for most things its nothing like real garlic.

I have never heard of garlic destroying the friendly bacteria, but i guess anything can be abused.. but it seems to be you would have to be taking mass doses every day for a long period for something like this to happen. Doc would be much better able to discuss this.

Melanie,

start with a clove, say morning and evening... or even make yourself some total tonic and have some every day.

Melanie,

the properties in garlic which generate the odour are in fact the most medicinal properties! So taking odourless tablets is somewhat defeating the purpose of taking them in the first place.

YUP!!! But odorless has little to no effect. Try eatting a congee.

Cook up some rice, and when its almost done, chop up your garlic,

throw it in, and eat your super rice congee :) It wont be quite so

potent that way. After that take palmfull of fennel and chew it

really well. It will give u nice breath, and a good taste in the `ol

mouth :o You will thank me after ;) And will also keep the farting

down too, lol (the other horrible smell in life!)

Take care,

Chewing some fresh parsley or peppermint leaf will help with smell as well. And yes, you do need to have it with a bit of food or it will burn you. Or you could swallow a small clove like a pill with a bit of food and avoid much of the smell that way.

First

thing every morning I take one or two cloves of garlic, chop them into small

pieces, and take a spoon full with a glass of water. This is followed by the cayenne-again

in a spoon, some turmeric in a spoon, and a nice slice of ginger root to chew

on. Then brush the teeth. The ginger helps a bit with the garlic; but the truth

is that it is exhaled in ones breath. Folks probably think I smell like garlic.

Oh well. My belief is that the raw garlic is far more potent than processed

garlic. And its kept me healthy for quite some time.
