The other side of the coin is that I've also heard it may simply be possible that these people have a higher need for certain nutrients than most people do, not necessarily because they cannot process them properly. Unless somebody else knows something I do not know. I suppose there are a million different possiblities and it may be one thing for one person and another for somebody else. I read Abram Hoffer's book Orthomolecular Nutrition many years ago back in college, and I remember his basic main premise is that each of us has unique nutritional needs, and must discover, often through trial and error, what things help us function at our optimal levels. The really bad thing about those drugs is that many of them are very difficult to withdraw from and they lie to the person about there being any withdrawal symptoms often and, well, let's just say, they are so desirous to encourage everyone to take their meds -- and a spoon full of sugar may help the medicine go down, but the fact of the matter is, that the withdrawal from some of those meds can Feel like a psychosis but often passes once the withdrawal is over, with the right care, attention to nutrition and whatever is determined that person needs. I know a woman who has helped many schizophrenics get off prescription meds, and she is often willing to give free advice over the internet if she feels she can be of help. Her son struggles with it himself, so she went through the whole route with the mental health industry and finally decided she could help him better on her own, and did. Now she is studying to be a naturopathic physician, but she has helped literally thousands get off medications successfully, through the use of diet and nutrition... Guest guest
~~~Cathy et al, thanks for all the information. I've never told my friend I think she is crazy because I don't think she is. To me, it seems like something's not balanced right in her metabolism or something. You know how you hear sometimes that some people need more of certain nutrients because their bodies just aren't that efficient at processing them and getting the most out of them? It's obvious she believes what she thinks is true. Most times I would say, not living close to her and so unable to really check on certain things she would say, that I thought there were possibilities to her stories. She is convinced a man has stalked her for years; who am I to disagree? However, in smaller issues where she has allowed me to follow her train of thought, I've seen the areas where she has substituted her own belief over what she knows is only a possibility, and has acted on those possibilities. The last time she emailed me, she started yelling at her stalker because she is sure he is intercepting her mail and adding things, etc. For that reason, she doesn't want me to email her anymore. She is on some medication, I'm not sure what kinds though, and she herself has told me she doesn't like the way they make her feel. Perhaps structural damage could cause these things too? Or maybe learned ways of thinking too hard and creating massive grooves in the mental pathways that are hard to hurdle or bypass as time goes on. I don't know. It's a hard thing to witness. She has always been such a kind friend to me. She said she would call soon, but I haven't heard from her yet. Hoping to encourage her to try some of these things when she does. ~~ --- WillowShade40 wrote: > ok, one more: > just for the record, i have sat and listened > to MANY delusions in my > life from somebody very close to me > i don't believe i ever in all those years ( > except for once or twice > when i lost my composure ), even while he was trying > desperately to CONVINCE > me that his current delusion was real -- to > " convert " me to seeing it his > way, NEVER did I say, " look, you're having a > schizophrenic break and you are > Delusional.
