Cod Liver Oil Question

Hi All,

I recently began taking cod liver oil each morning. For one thing, we

always have omega-3 fish oils around, but were formerly more focused on

taking them in gel-cap form. A woman at a local herbal store told me that it

is better to take a tablespoon of cod liver oil each morning. She said it is

a higher quality than what comes in the caps. 1) is this correct? I'm

almost afraid to ask this fish question because I don't want to be told to

avoid omega-3 oils. For one thing, omega 3 oils have been shown to reduce

and/or eliminate the need for psychiatric medications for conditions of

schizophrenia and bipolar. We do not have any bipolar in our home. We

don't have any schizophrenia either because without the intervention of

doctors or medications " (i.e. drugs -- sic - the drugs lords of the

pharmeceutical industries), and even without vitamins and fish oil ( to a

paranoid person they are only reminders of hospital visits where they were

forced to swallow pills against their will ( he escaped the mental hospital

no less than 3 times, as a young man -- but do to an amazing turn of events (

well, what can I say, I am a poet and ... then there's karma ), he has not

heard any voices nor had delusions for about 7 years now. No voices. Used

to have them all the time. Proliferating delusions and paranoia. So, that

is why I began making sure our family took omega oils. It began with the

remarks of a man who claims to treat schizophrenia with these oils

(http://www.drmckenzie.com) and was reinforced by a woman I knew at the time

who explained how being low in omega 3 oils sets the stage for all sorts of

disease processes.

At any rate, now I am trying to lower my cholesterol, and I have heard

different things about oils (good oils, bad oils, no oils) when trying to

lower cholesteral. My mom suggested I may want to suspend taking the cod

liver oil while lowering the cholesteral. 2) any comments on whether this is

good advice?

(my mom knows a lot about oils and has been to the Whitaker clinic

even, and successfully dissolved a blockage in her renal artery that was

causing high blood pressure, and successfully lowered her own blood pressure,

over the years ( in the midst of all this, she ignored the doc's remarks that

if she didn't take HIS advice about her condition she would DIE, and went

sailing with my dad: he was the captain and she the first mate. They sailed

from Florida to Corups Christi to Cayman Islands to Cazumel to Panama to

Tahiti to Hawaii and back to California, then sold the boat!)) but this is

just an aside, because I think my mom is a " neato " lady in her early sixties!

Basically, I'm curious to know about cod liver oil and cholesteral.

Off to do an archive search as well...

There is an article by Doc on omega 3 oils in the files and yes capsules usually aren't that potent.

Hi!

As far as I know, garlic is good for regulating colesterol, and at

the same time it clears the arteries.
