Guest guest
This is mysterious and fascinating to me ! I went to the library and brought home a human anatomy in illustrations, and the Internal iliac, the vein they say is taking over the majority of circulation in my left leg, is only a couple inches long. It is up in the pelvis at the top of the femoral, and takes blood from the pelvis region to the heart. How could this tiny vein (which grey's anatomy says is nonetheless rich in valves (hurray for that !), be taking over the majority of circulation? It must have Grown, not just in diameter, but in length, significantly, to make up for the severe restriction due to old clot that extends through the entire femoral vein. It must have grown to the length of the femoral vein, at least. I need to ask my doc when I go in for more details. This is truly amazing... I had imagined it would be a longer vein, that had merely gained in diameter to take on the extra blood flow, but no. It is a very short vein at the top of the femoral, and it HAD to have grown significantly in length, in order to take on the " majority of blood flow " in that leg. Now I know what those tingly wiggly creeping feelings were in my leg, that made me feel I needed to go to bed early all the time, and rest, rest rest my body and my leg.
