Guest guest
As I said Becky, I wasn't pointing the finger at anyone in particular as I'd just like the political aspects of it dropped. Let me be as clear as I can when I say "No personalities" and "No politics", and I'll give examples. We can discuss the issues of war in a philosophical sense. IE. "I believe war to be bad" is a simple statement and the this can be disagreed with, agreed with, and/or discussed as is. A person can say why they think war is bad, or they can say why they think war is good. We are dealing with moral philosophical issues here. No names (personalities) are being used. And believe me, these simple debates can get heated enough sometimes. What can cause havoc is when we bring personalities (the names of people) and political ideologies into the picture. IE. "I think that Joe Schmo who belongs to the Ugga Bugga party is a real jerk as he eats little children for breakfast" (Not a real person, nor real political party ;o). Thoretically, the statement may or may not be true, but this suddenly involves a person who may be loved by many or hated by just as many. It also involves his political party (the Ugga Bugga's), and some may love that party while others hate it. Now we have a flaming list war on our hands. Get the idea??? In real life, we could get a list war happening between the Republicans, the Democrats, and the Rhinoseros Party because someone didn't like what another was saying about what those parties and the politicians in those parties were doing. Even though I have very strong views myself on certain political issues, this is not the list or place to vent them. We don't mention George Bush's name. We don't mention Saddam Hussein's name. We don't even joke about them, as this can be taken the wrong way. All it takes is one wrong word to set someone off and there we go. And Papa here, is suddenly hitting the ole "BAN" button a dozen times a minute to bring peace back to the list, which is a completely unnecessary action if the topics were simply not brought up in the first place. I hope I've explained it well this time. I don't know if I can make it any clearer.
