Mammogram Question

Hello, Cathie!

I can understand your concerns. Because my sister died of

premenopausal breast cancer and my mother had it, I have had to

carefully consider the issue of mammograms.

I have learned that the value in mammogram isnt necessarily in the

exact test you take, rather it is in having a record over time where

changes in breast tissue can be observed. It sounds like you have

had a mammogram in the past. If you decide to go through with your

appointment, you will want to clearly identify where and when you

had your last test and your facility will compare the changes they

will find.

I also learned that the amount of radiation they need to do this

test is quite low. It doesnt take alot of Xray to scan the area and

with no bone involved even less is needed. I have mammograms every

two years and do not feel a cause for concern although I refuse

dental xrays unless I feel a toothache.

Breast cancer is a terrible thing. There is a balance between

overparanoia (been there especially after what happened to my

sister) and not enough concern. One of the best things taking the

tests do for me is give me peace of mind knowing I am doing

everything I can.

Love in Christ,

Cindy

I am 37 Cathie and I will not have a mamogram. My reasons are that 1) I don't want my boobs mashed and twisted, 2) If I had cancer I would refuse conventional treatment anyway, and 3) there are ways of preventing and detecting problems with your breasts without having them mutilated in a machine, just as there are other ways of treating breast cancer than the tortuous poisoning practiced by modern medicine (chemo). Just my 2 cents on it :-)

Absolutely! And destructive at that.2) isn't it marketing women's fear?

Yup!3) my mom is a vegan and has strong feelings Against mammogram, although she did not suggest I do not get one.

I suggest you do NOT get one. Giving yourself a personal exam (checking for lumps) is the best peace of mind you can give yourself. If it looks right, feels right, and your gut feeling is that your breasts are OK, then I'd say you're right LOL. Mammograms are completely unecessary in my books, and may actually be a source of cancer.
