Guest guest
Anyone know where to obtain a 10 gallon pickling crock? I would love to go back to making my own sauerkraut. Recipes, don't have any I only made simple basic sauerkraut, you know 2-3 tablespoons of salt to 5 pounds of cabbage. Used to shred 50 pounds of cabbage when I made it and had lots of kraut to eat all year. Then my crock broke and so did my heart. (sobbing big crocodile tears). LOL Oh well, someday I will find another. Guest guest
> Anyone know where to obtain a 10 gallon pickling crock? > Don, Try www.Lehmans.com. Their catalog has up to a 5 gallon crock, but they are a bit pricey. This is a non-electric catalog and they have lots of cool stuff. I'm not sure if they ship overseas though. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi, Don. You should be able to find in Slovenia. Sauerkraut is something that almost everybody make every year. Some people use plastic containers, but if you lucky enough to find wood made barrel that people used to have. It is the best taste if you make in wood barrel. My father used to put some corn in each cabbage head to have nice gold color.
Guest guest
I know that he washed with hot water and washing soda before he put cabbage in. After that boiled water and salt I guess protect against those creatures. Everybody was using wooden barrels at that time, there was no plastic and later was very expensive. Now is more expensive to have wooden one. Jasmina
