Hmmmmm that is interesting that your Dr has tested you several

times. It sounds like he believes your symptoms suggest blood sugar

issues.

I have been around the block with blood sugar testing. I usually

pass all the tests (failed only during pregnancy) yet I have had

sypmtoms nearly all my life. When it was " caught " during pregnancy

and properly treated I then came to realize my symptoms were no

different even though I " passed " all those blood sugar tests.

I came to realize the inaccuracies in blood sugar testings. This

became more apparent when I began monitoring my own levels when I

was on insulin.

I " pass " blood sugar tests now ordered by my Dr but I still have all

the same syptoms I have always had and that I had when I was on

insulin.

So, I pondered this a bit and came to realize a few things about

blood sugar testing. In case it will be of interest to you I will

share what I learned.

There are several ways to test blood sugar. Most commonly done

currently is the test that averages blood sugar levels over a 3

month period. It is a one time draw and gives the Dr a one number

average of what your sugar levels have been over 3 months. I

remember my Dr telling me how accurate that was. Hummppphhhhh! It

doesnt take a brain surgeon to figure out obvious problems with this

most commonly ordered blood test! If you experience like I do lots

of peaks then lots of drops what do you get? Average levels! Drs

rave about the accuracy of this particular test but...... it clearly

doesnt account if your sugar swings high and swings low which is a

fairly common thing for many people.

Enter another " reliable " test. The next commonly ordered test gives

you a here and now reading. Usually done fasting. This is like

taking a blind shot in a dark room. Blood sugar flucuates quickly

and sometimes dramatically. For many people it is lower during

fasting and then raises after eating. A fasting test will not show

issues with people whose sugar is like this.

Last there is the sugar challange test. This is the more accurate

test of all in my opinion. It will show how your body will react if

loaded with sugar. Testing is done over several hours and will

include several blood draws. I have failed this test and have passed

it. Yet, I have always had and probably will always have issues with

sugar.

The best exam of all for blood sugar issues is your own physical

response that you monitor and study for your own information.

I have learned not to rely on the medical institution for diagnosis

and management of blood sugar issues but instead to monitor,

evaluate and treat it myself.

You may ask yourself these questions.

Are you ever " hungry " even when you are full? What this means is do

you ever eat out of a physical need to eat (like a weak feeling)

that is relieved by food however, you just ate a few hours ago and

have still have a full feeling in your stomach?

Do you feel jittery when you are hungry? A " normal " hunger feeling

is felt in the stomach. It is not a weakness (unless gone on for a

long time) and there is no temperature changes. A blood sugar hunger

is felt more in the upper body or legs, there is weakness and

sometimes (but not always) changes in body temperature.

Do you get unusual fatigue after eating high carbohydrate meals?

If you say yes to these things you may want to look more into blood

sugar. Let me know if you want more info if you suspect this is the

case for you.

I will answer your question about green tea in the next post. This

one got long on me <grin>.
