Guest guest
No Shelby, I did not know before they were born that they would be autistic. If I did, I would have still had them. Autism is a neurological disorder affecting millions of children worldwide. In fact, the numbers are increasing exponentially every day. Sometimes a child is affected immediately after birth, sometimes they simply "go away" and regress back to a baby when they are 2 or 3 years old. They usually have little or no language, the inability to process emotions, anxieties, sound and touch sensativities and gastro-intestinal problems. I also have a perfectly "normal" little girl. It doesn't matter what you eat or do during your pregnancy, it doesn't matter if you are American or Chinese, it doesn't matter what religion, it doesn't matter if you have no autistic member anywhere in your family tree. The most probable theories to the cause of autism are environmental poisons including personal care products, household cleaners and the very air we breathe; nutritional deficits in modern foods; heavy metal poisoning, vaccinations, OTC pharmaceuticals - and the list goes on and on. Despite their disabilities, both my boys are loving and give joy to everyone that comes in contact with them. My wish for them is to be happy and as healthy as they can be, and if I could turn back time and go back to my first pregnancy knowing my first born would regress at 2 years old, I would not have killed him for it. I was just curious if she knew (i.e.,) were they born with it or was it acquired. Being that I do not know the 1st thing about autism, I was hoping to learn something. As I have read the below comments....I feel a bit "riled"....and my first thought was that it sounded like a curse or that it was done on purpose.... I am not sure what the thought was behind this but I don't think the question or comment was put very well.... My thoughts on this are: first, no one asks to or hopes to have children with any type of health problem.... and second, if they do have special children then they are very blessed. God has chosen these very special moms and dads to be His caretakers. These children (any children with special needs) are God's special children. And not just anyone is chosen to raise these children. Parents like Janet, and the many others with special children are blessed and have a special place in God's heart. We should all be so blessed. These parents have a "gift" and that gift is Love. along with patience and understanding... This is not a "curse" but a blessing. My hat off to Janet, Lisa, Ann, Barbara and the many others on this list who are so blessed with God's children. Guest guest
Just my 2 cents on the subject.... I think autism is a result of our society's decline - - more toxins in our air, water, food, personal items, clothes, furniture, etc. - lower quality food - full of pesticides, devoid of nutrients and soil-based organisms - massive intake of junk food, refined sugar, food additives, hydrogenated fats, etc. - overuse of antibiotics - massive vaccinations introducing heavy metals into the bloodstream and altering immune function all so that pharmaceutical companies can make more money As a society not taking good care of itself or our planet, we are getting sicker as a population - the adults get degenerative diseases, the kids get problems that affect their nervous systems (since this system is the least developed and more vulnerable in children and heavily influenced by digestive function). Our race is getting less able to cope with the situation with each new generation...as we all weaken somewhat genetically with each generation and our environment gets worse. There is an increasing incidence in autism, ADD, hyperactivity, etc ...all indications of toxins and deficiencies affecting the nervous system (at least in the majority of cases). It is a societal problem...not really specific to a particular mom, family genetic line, etc. Some of the autistic children I have worked with are my favorite kids on the planet. They are adorable, loving, intellegient, interesting!! But, they are sick and I want to help them get well and be the best they can be. Not that we don't love them just they way they are though! Luckily, more and more is known about how to help them and it is not that hard these days to improve the health of an autistic child so that they eventually get labeled with something else (language delay, ADD) and then eventually help them improve toward no labels. Ahh...to be NOT labeled as something by a psychiatrist or doctor who only knows how to label things and knows nothing about what caused the problems in the first place or how to help!
