What Your Doctor Doesn't Know....

Well, not a whole lot, lol. If you've ever observed a group of

residents and medical students in a hospital...you'd be either

amazed, or disgusted. Most times I am a mixture of both.

I have been working in my field for 9 going on 10 years. I think

this is what has prompted me to seriously look into alternative

treatment. And I'm not the only one in the medical field who feels

that way. I've asked many nurses and other technical staff, they all

have come, or are coming to, the same conclusion.

Right now I work in, what is considered to be, one of the best

hospitals in Philadelphia, perhaps the whole east coast. Ask any

nurse who also works there, you'll get the answer " I wouldn't bring

my dog here to be treated " . Funny huh? Not really.

Couple of weeks ago, the code team....a group of 'highly trained'

residents, came running in my room in the middle of a procedure. I

turned and said " WHAT the HELL are you doing? " . " Isn't there a code

here? " I was less than amused. " No, but I know that Mrs. so-and-so

wasn't doing too well earlier " and off they went. I just stood there

in complete awe as they played follow the leader. As it turned out,

I was their third stop. Scary huh? In the meantime, some poor lady

was in repiratory failure with nurses scrambling to try to stablize

her until the team arrived.

Last week, a resident came down and asked for barium. He thought

It'd be best to give a patient that particular preparation because

she was at increased aspiration risk. I asked him if he lost his

mind. I handed him another preparation, told him it was better. He

argued with me, took the barium out of my refrigerator, and

left...only to come back half an hour later looking for the

gastroview that I offered him the first time.

They brought a patient up from the floor. I told them she had a

bleed (brain). Suggested they *might* want to stop the heparin...a

blood thinner. I was originally just being sarcastic. After they

looked at me like I just grew another head, I realized they had no

idea what I was talking about. Heaven forbid they take advice from a

technician. The woman is now not doing so well. Massive brain bleed.

I later spoke to the nurse in charge. I told her what happened, she

said " par for the course with that doctor " ...he is no longer with us.

I was talking to my sister one day. She said her family doc

prescribed a certain medication, and she was having a hard time

finding it. I told her they no longer make that medication, haven't

for over a year.

My friend, who probably hasn't been sick a day in her life, was at

her docs for a check up. She told him that the next day she was

going to the dentist to have a tooth filled. He gave her a rather

strong antibiotic to start taking that day 'just in case'.

Hmmm...could he be the REAL cause for the supervirus?

One of our doctors developed a new procdure for tennis elbow. They

go in and chip away at the bone that has overgrown because of

internal irritation. One of the residents is explaining this

procedure to me. Says " we go in and virtually chip away at the

ligament " " You mean bone " I said " You can't 'chip' away a ligament " .

He said " NO, we chip away at the ligament " ...ummmm...ok. Later I

overhear him telling another group of residents this procedure in

great detail. He IS the expert of course. " We go in and virtually

chip away at the BONE " LOL.

I was in the OR during a procedure. The attending md, who has utmost

confidence in his residents, procedes to go to the bank. Yes, the

bank, while the procedure is taking place. Says to page him if

there's any trouble....he'll be back in a few minutes. First of

all...he had to break scrub to leave the or...but that's not the

REAL issue here. I'm sure he didnt expect to get the page that he

did, lol. The resident was wondering why he couldn't get the rod out

of the young man's leg. At first he tugged. Then he yanked. Then he

enlisted two other residents to help him pull this stubborn thing

out. All three of them, feet propped up on the table for leverage,

FINALLY the darned thing comes out. OOOPS!! Forget something?????

Perhaps it would have been easier to take out if you took the SCREW

out first!!

If you have any health questions....go see your local naturopath,

lol.
