Thoughts on Full Set of Dental X-Rays

I had a conversation with my dentist about this last year, but once

again it is that time for a full set. I'm not speaking of one lone x-

ray but the full mouth, all angles.

When I mentioned my concern about that much radiation year after year,

she had a good explanation that allayed my fears. However then why do

they put that heavy apron to guard your vital organs?!

I understand why they step out of the room to x-ray, as they do it

repeatedly day in day out, but how concerned do I need to be about

myself?

Any input or facts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Michele

Hi,

I was a Dental Assistant for 7 years and I can tell you that you get more

radiation on an airplane flight than you do for a full set of xrays at the

dentist. And the reason for the apron is to protect your thyroid ,

ovary/testicular glands. I hope this helps you. Any other questions I will be

happy to answer.

I'll be interested in thoughts on this too. Like Michele, I wonder

about the accumulated effect over the years.
