Food for thought: Illness as soulwork

A good internet friend had a stroke recently.

This woman is a paragon of health virtue.

She is an athlete, a professional herbalist and

health nut, is active in her church and has a loving

family.

The longer I work with health matters, the more

I come to the conclusion that the occasional

bout of illness is not by itself a sign that we are

doing it all wrong. It is how we cope and recover

that matters.

Illness is one of the tools the Universe has up its

sleeve for forcing us to develop our soul.

Being ill gives people around us a chance to be a

caregiver. My friend's husband and daughters

rose beautifully to the challenge.

Being at the receiving end of caregiving can be a

profound, soul-enriching experience, albeit one I

am not in a hurry to go through.

Preaching is so much more fun than practicing.

I generally try to extract the maximum amount

of learning from the minimum amount of suffering.

No pain, no pain.......

Lene,

I absolutely agree with you! I am in that space where I'm in the

process of healing - and it's very much soulwork - and opportunity/ies

to break old patterns and develop in so many ways - new ways of being

and doing at every level. Purpose and meanings we can only half

comprehend, till we start seeing the bigger picture. " Not my will, but

Thy be done. "

I resisted (and therefore struggled and suffered!) because I didn't

want to face that journey again - but now I have accepted this path is

mine to walk - and there are many blessings, I am in good company and I

have much to learn and so much to be grateful for.

I love your posts!

Warm wishes

Kelpie
