Guest guest
Hello! I am hoping someone could give me some advice. My mom was recently diagnosed with Occipital Neuralgia. I was wondering if there is anyone else who has been diagnosed with this. She has been given Neurontin and she does not like the way it makes her feel. She would prefer an alternative answer and will consider all options suggested. I look forward to your posts, or any information that you can give me on occipital neuralgia! Thanks so much, Kristina
Guest guest
With her doctor's permission, you might find a good massage therapist in her area trained in neuromuscular therapy through either Paul St. John or Judith (Walker) Delany. Working the occipitalis and related muscles can be very helpful. I would be happy to give you some links off line. Toni On 1/5/07, cmcanarney <kmcanarney wrote: > > Hello! Guest guest
I suffer occipital referred distresses which may mimic what your mother has. I don't know the origin of her illness but it may be work a try if she suffers pain and a tight, electric nerve kinda feeling resembling tinnitus but not in the ear area. Its something electric you feel all the time. I discovered that some electromagnetics has offered some relief for me after so many years of agony. I will say though that after the first time I used I did have tremendous headache three hours later but subsequent treatments did not have the same backlash. Guest guest
Occipital Neuralgia is a medical condition characterized by chronic pain in the upper neck, back of the head and behind the ears. These areas correspond to the locations of the lesser and greater occipital nerves. Occipital neuralgia is caused by damage to these nerves. Ways in which they can be damaged include trauma (usually concussive), physical stress on the nerve, repetitious neck contraction, and as a result of medical complications (such as osteochondroma, a benign tumour of the bone). The only direct symptom of this condition is essentially a chronic headache. Because chronic headaches are a common symptom for many, many conditions, occipital neuralgia is often misdiagnosed at first. Once diagnosed, occipital neuralgia can be treated in several ways. These include nerve blocks, peripheral nerve stimulation, steroids, antidepressants, and Occipital Cryoneurolysis. Other less common forms of surgical neurolysis are also used to treat the condition. Occipital neuralgia is not a life-threatening or otherwise health-threatening condition. I was prescribed Neurontin and I hate the way it makes me feel!! It is not good for you it is a nerve blocker that blocks the signals from your brain to your spinal cord !!! So my ? is how can it tell the good nerves from the bad !??!And to make it worse I seen a commercial on TV (one of the lawery ones about being hurt from the meds u are taking )and it was about nerontin saying how if ur loved one has committed suicide or has had depressing thoughts !! So please be careful this is not a good med !!!!! But the dr.'s love to prescribe it anyway!! They are like drup dealers and pushers !!!! Guest guest
Hi, I have not been diagnosed with occipital neuralgia, but I do think I have it after a car acccident. I already had migraine, and this new trauma just focused the pain to coming through my occipital joint into my head. I have more kinds of pain in my head than I can count. I spoke to my doctor about it just a few weeks ago. He was non-commital about it. Prior to the accident, I had been going to the chiroparactor. My back was feeling about perfect. Then BAM! I had been in a car accident previously and had then found a good physical therapist who knows many modalities including cranio-sacral technique and neuro- muscular re-education. I have been seeing her for five years again now. She has helped me, but the thing that has helped me the most is finding a good acupuncturist. I have been going for acupuncture treatments for six months now. I think that it is important to take supplements, especially magnesium for a problem like this. Omega 3 fatty acids, either fish oil or flax oil, are very important, too. I hope some of the sugestions help your mother.
Guest guest
Kristina, Your Mom may want to look into using magnets for pain. At times the nerves may grow new pathways and/or heal themselves. There have been good results with other nerve conditions using magnets. Sorry I don't have a personal story about this particular ailment though. Sharon , " A.J. " <swaff2 wrote: > > , " cmcanarney " > <kmcanarney@> wrote: > > > > Hello!
