I have two dogs I use frontline on. When I got the one she was so infested

that the apple cider vinegar in the water, and the garlic/brewers yeast tabs did

nothing to repel them. Since using the frontline, no more fleas. My question

is, both my dogs are under 22 lbs. One is about 6 lbs and the other probably

close to 15 or so. Could I split one dose for dogs 22lbs and less between the

two? Would it work just to prevent the fleas, since they do not have any right

now. All opinions are welcome. Thanks!

I did the same thing -- resorted to Frontline when the fleas got so

bad (in spite of the d.e.) that the dogs had big patches of dried

blood above their tails. I always start out with a small / half dose

of everything (even herbs) to make sure there's not going to be a

violent reaction, and to my surprise, even as bad as the fleas were,

the half-dose got rid of all noticeable fleas! - on 8 lb. and 80 lb.

dogs. It kept them away for longer than 30 days, too.

Yes, many people on the cat list order a couple of packages of Front

Line--which can be found a bit cheaper on line than bought from a store--and

empty all the packages into a brown bottle and then they use a needless

syringe to suck up just enough for their pets. It goes by weight and for

most cats, only 2 ml is needed! So, you can actually get a lot more use out

of the Front Line than what is recommended on the package. And I found, like

you, that it isn't necessary to use it every month, either. Once every

couple of months works just fine--and saves money!

Oh!! I said 2 ml for cats!! WRONG. I don't know what I was thinking of.

Here's the suggested dosage from the cat list, and it also includes dogs.

" Dog Dose--the dose for 23-44 pounds is 1.34ML and for 45-88 pounds is 2

68ML. The dosage for cats is .5 ML and dogs from 11-22 pounds is .5ML also

The refrigeration (of the Front Line once poured out of its little pouches

and stored in a baby food jar) is not necessary but keeping it away from

sunlight is and in a tightly closed container. I use a baby food jar with

paper wrapped around it to protect it from light, but a small amber jar

would do the same thing. I would not put it in plastic. "

So, you would use the same dosage for your small dogs as they would for

cats--.5ml. This is a VERY little amount. I guess I was thinking of when I

use my Dad's syringes. His is by 2cc lines, and I was told that 1cc equals

1ml, so I use only at half a line! It's a guessing game, but pretty

accurate. Maybe you could ask at the vets or your local pharmacy if they

have a syringe with half ml lines you could buy. If they have one, or one

that you can make do with, they will probably just give it to you. My vet

has done that before.

It does keep the fleas down. Even though you think they don't have any now,

there could be eggs in the house (carpeting, dog beds, etc) that haven't

hatched yet, so a dose would kill them once they hatch and start feeding. I

usually only use the Front Line as a last resort type of thing anyway,

though. Only when flea season is bad. The rest of the time, DE and brewers

yeast on their food, keeps the fleas under pretty good control. But,

according to the cat list, using Front Line every month does NOT hurt the

cats, so you'd be safe in using it anytime you wanted on your dog.
