Guest guest
My 11 month old son has tons of drainage, causing hiim to cough frequentlly at night (not so much during the day) and its driving everyone crazy. He will cough so hard that he will wake up amd I have to get him back to sleep. It is keeping all 3 of us up. I've tried herbal children's expectorant and a children's homeopathic cough syrup to no avail. There is a severe family history of allergies on both sides so I assmume it is tied in to that. He has a humidifier in our room and in his room. He drinks or eats no dairy except for me...which I guess isn't really dairy lol. He has clear to white drainage from his nose at times. We live in the desert so there's a lot of dry air and other lovely things that make my husband sound like our son every morning. Any ideas? Guest guest
You need to look at the source of his cough...his sinuses...and work on that. 96% of chronic sinus problems are fungal related. There are even some fungii that are in the dry desert air. Valley Fever is one condition that is due to fungus in the dry air. Get rid of the drainage that's causing his cough. Sudafed will help temporarily to dry up the drainage. Then you should use something to help get rid of his sinus problem on a more permanent basis. Sinus Cleanser is said to help many people. It's on sale this month at http://www.bioinnovations.net/products.asp?dept=1021 It will help kill of any fungus or bacterial infection. Any product that will help kill off fungus will help. Getting sugar out of his diet for a while will help. That will stop feeding any fungal problem. Also, get him some probiotics to fix his gut flora. That's where most allergies originate. Acidophilus, bifidus, etc can be purchased in capsule form. Yogurt should help. www.natren.com has lots of info on probiotics. They even make a product especially for children. You can call them on the phone & they will tell you what you need. Guest guest
Re: Need help for son Hi Lori, Try a HEPA filter and an ionizer in his room at night to purify the air. Maybe your son should see a real homeopath for this. Guest guest
My suggestion is to consult a good ayurvedic doctor. A lot of phlegm is usually caused by an imbalance in doshas and a good ayurvedic doctor should be able to diagnose it and make a good diet recommendation and give some herbal medication. Each individual constitution is different and it is hard to prescribe a medicine without full knowledge. Guest guest
Take some time and investigate using tissue salts. They are safe and easy to use. For coughs, I've been using black seed oil although I don't know about using it on an 11 month old. Instinct says yes but I could be wrong. Probably a quarter or eigth of a tsp twice a day would suffice. It's very soothing and gets rid of coughs very fast. Faster than antibiotics. Have you tried a humidifier or vaporizer in his room? Using a magnetic necklace would also be quite likely to help. I know many with asthma who stopped coughing with this.
