Ok, I hit the lotto today, finding stuff that has been on this grp,

at Vit.world today.

My mom wants to use the Tea Tree Oil, on her nail. What is the best

way to do this to make it work best.

Also is this ok to apply to cats/dogs that have skin problems as well.

The nail, just appy w/ a q-tip. I wondered about the animal thing too. I did

wash my dog in tea tree shampoo, but straight tea tree oil is poisonous in

small amout it says so I didnt want to try it.

hi vickie-

i sent you an email directly, but i thought i would post on the web as

well...TEA TREE OIL IS TOXIC TO CATS...DO NOT USE IT DIRECTLY ON THEIR

SKIN AND DO NOT LET THEM INHALE IT...IT CAN BE FATAL....dogs however,

are fine with it......

i use TTO for many different things...it has great anitfungal

properties...your mom can apply the oil directly to the nail 2x per

day in the am and the pm....hopefully she will see positive

results.... as with anything, it will take time to work...especially

if the fungus has been there for awhile....the fungus didn't grow

overnight therefore the TTO oil will not work over night...patience is

a virtue!

Good Luck-

Hello,

When using Tea Tree it's important to make sure you have a good quality from a

reputable distributor. From my understanding the problem with Tea Tree comes

from using an oxidized oil. I'm not sure exactly what you are attempting to take

care of with the nail, but applying essential oils to a nail may be done by

applying drop by drop. When using Tea Tree you may apply it neat (undiluted).

As for animals with skin problems....there can be so many causes. To apply tea

tree just because it's a skin problem is like shooting dice. Tea Tree is not

generally chosen by cats/dogs. If you look at an animals natural habitat and

what herbs/oils they have available to them for healing, you will find an

oil/herb suitable for their condition. With that being said, if I was treating a

koala bear I might reach for tea tree otherwise I'd look at the causes such as

allergies, nerves, hormones and then choose an appropriate oil. If you are

interested in working with animals and essential oils/herbs I suggest the book,

The Animal Aromatics Workbook by Caroline Ingraham. As for understanding animals

in their natural habitat, Wild Health by Cindy Engel is the best book I’ve

found.

Hi Vickie,

Tea tree essential oil is no doubt amazing stuff! Tea

Tree is one of the few essential oils that can be used

neat on the body. Having said that it should although,

always be monitored for irritation, as everyone does

not react the same.

For your mothers nail you could just apply it directly

to the problem. Here is a good link about tea tree, be

sure to also read the " more info "

Cats, I would not apply tea tree to, unless it is in a

very isolated area, like a cut or wound. Cats are

quite sensitive to essential oils and you must be

careful. Dogs are more resiliant. I have used straight

tea tree rubbed into the skin (under all that fur) of

my dog to rid him of fleas and ticks. He didn't really

seem to like it that much, but it seemed to work. And

I definately use it on him if he gets a cut or wound.

Hope this helps,

Michael
