Guest guest
A while ago I received an email from a gentleman who is managing Meniere's with diet and supplements. His recommendations follow, slightly edited for brevity. To find out which foods are highest in zinc, the wonderful folks at the George Mateljan foundation will tell you. http://whfoods.org I asked Henri permission to use his words, but never heard back. So to make things right I will post his greeting, which includes a link to his business, I am sure he would like that. When this condition is diagnosed, there is always a severe lack of Zinc in the fluid of the inner ear, even with-in the fluid in the eyes and also a lack of it in the prostrate. This in turn cause depletion in other important organs, nerve tissues and brain tissues as well. In addition the nerve sheaths, capillaries and minute venus systems show signs of deterioration. When it was first discovered it was discovered in people 70 and over and predominantly the male population and was classed as a disease of the aged. However, today, 2004 and current it is surfacing in women as well, the youngest case I have come across is a young lady of 23 (very, very tragic). Apparently (known by medical profession) oral contraceptives interfere with Zinc and other mineral absorption. Having said all of the above, what is the cure? Unfortunately there is none. But you can control it to the point of leading a fairly normal life. The first thing that you need do is reduce dairy product consumption or eliminate it altogether. This is major. The reason for this is the heavy injection of chemicals/hormones and antibiotics injected into the dairy cows, these contrary to what you may have been told, find their way into your system (if you consume dairy) and thorough a chemical reaction slow the absorption of Zinc and several other vital minerals. Second, begin a heavy Zinc supplementation program. Here you need to also ad copper to help the zinc absorb. In addition, regular supplementation of MSM to help restore nervous, venus and capillary function. Zinc by the way is also found in the DNA of every cell, so you can see the importance it plays. My own recommendation is that if you are over 35 you should be supplementing with 15 - 20 milligrams a day with 2 milligrams of copper every other day to avoid getting Meniere's. One indictor of zinc deficiency is if you look at your nails and see little white spots like little clouds scattered through the nails, although this may not be the case with everyone, it does hold true for most, this suggests Zinc deficiency in progress. In addition, it is important to keep a certain amount of calcium (multiple sources) in your blood by supplementing with your breakfast or morning meal. (Strong Bones by New Roots herbal recommended) this also means the occasional use of vitamins D and A. It helps to reduce the consumption of red meats as well, even if you do switch to organic beef, toxins and chemicals accumulate in highest concentrations in animal fat. These types of toxins and chemicals seem to trigger the symptoms when you have the disease, as do long chain sugars. One of the misfortunes of the medical profession is because there is a slight pressure or sensation of pressure in the inner ear as well as tinnitus they often prescribe a diuretic or elimination of salt, which simply produces deafness quicker. What causes this sensation is a slight thickening of the fluid in the inner ear, a diuretic or reduction of salt will only aggravate this condition more... in actual practice a little sea salt added to the diet will help the inner ear retain a little more water an thus thin the fluid to a more normal consistency reducing the feeling of pressure somewhat. In addition salt is required for the normal osmosis of cellular fluid movement in most every cell in the body so severe restriction of salt can have serious side effects that are not reversible. Now, another vital ingredient is walking. The legs have often been called your second heart, for good reason. At any moment in time they contain almost one third of your blood supply and moving them in a good brisk walking motion stimulates circulation even thorough out your brain as well as other parts where blood can stagnate. I use a step counter and have added an extra 6000+ steps to my daily routine. In addition, I have added bar bell exercise to keep my upper body in tone. If you follow the above, if you have Meniere's, in about 8 - 14 months most of your symptoms will disappear and after 24 months or so you may still have slight bouts of dizziness from time to time. But, you can't go off the regime for prolonged periods of time or symptoms will start to re-appear. This is a control situation, because of the damage caused to the system through depletion of Zinc and MSM in the system.
