My current major problem is degentative disc disease. I have bulging

dics in the l3-l5 areas with annual tears. Mri adn discogram have

confirmed thigns. I have had trigger point injections, and an epidurl

and neither brought any reliefe. I am currently taking vicodin and

valium every 4 hours with little relief. I am 33 and have been back

problems since I was 18 worse in the last 3 years. I have 4 kids so

this makes it even harder. I also have periodic limb movement disorder

where I move 200 times an hour while I sleep so I take klopin for

that. I had a hysterectomy in Feb adn now my thryoid is off (still

have overies) and it is barely high so noone is treating me. I also

take effexor for anxiety and " help with pain " and nexium. I love in

Reno and would appreciate any help with my quality of life. Thank you,

Karen

I also have periodic limb movement in sleep. I don't use any

medications for it. Instead, I've chosen to work overnight shifts so

that I am not trying to sleep during the peak hours for the problem.

This has really helped me, although my legs are very jumpy while I'm

at work. It's still an annoyance, but I do get a restful sleep during

the day.

My aunt recently shared with my mother that if you put a bar of soap

under your bottom sheet in your bed, it would stop restless legs. It

is working for my aunt and my mother, although I am at a loss to

explain how it could possibly be doing anything. Still, one night at

work when my legs were particularly bad, I stuck a bar of soap in my

pant pockets and it really calmed my legs down. It seems quite silly,

really, but it certainly is inexpensive to try.

If anyone has any clue why soap would work like this (other than the

obvious panacea effect), I'd love to hear it.

many blessings,

Liz

Perhaps it's pushing on a nerve that calms the leg. A bar of soap is pretty

thick and has weight to it, so the pressure might be what's helping.

The soap isn't against the leg though. It's under the sheets next to

the leg. Plus it's calming to the leg on the other side as well. It's

the darnedest thing.
