Some one would grab your head and rub it really hard with knuckels... wasn't fun ;-P Is that related, by the way, to the Indian Wrist Burn? Kids are MEAN! K Cheers! Guest guest
Hi All! I am new to this group, and new to Massage Therapy. Just waiting for my licencse. In the meantime, I've been trying to find out more about Indian Head Massage aka Champissage. Does anyone else practice it? If so, how well do the clients like it? Did you attend a course? Do you need to be " certified " to be able to offer it? Or is that only to advertise " Champissage " which I see is tradmarked. Quite frankly, I don't have the money to take the course, not at the present time, and it's hard to find courses offered in the USA anyway. Are there any books you recommend? Thank you for any help you can give me DahnaJeanne
Guest guest
Hello DahnaJean, When I hear Indian Head Massage, I keep visualizing massaging a nickel. :-) From what I remember, Indian head massage is something you can learn as a lay person, much like Touch for Health or Orthobionomy. There was a featured article about it in Massage Magazine a few years back. They may have an index of their articles at www.massagemag.org. There is now a good selection of CEU's either on line or through correspondance, but as a new massage therapist, you may benefit most from in person technique classes. Look to your local AMTA Chapter, state association, or nearby massage school for short classes by local therapists. Our state chapter has been able to offer 12 hour courses for $99.00 from some known providers. You might also see if you can sit in on sections of the core massage school program for a small fee. Most states allow CEU's for classes as short as three hours. It probably won't get you a certification in any of the nationally known techniques, but you will learn techniques and gain knowledge useful to your practice. ....and it's never too early to begin reviewing your body mechanics and other self-care techniques. -- In wellness, Toni D.
