Guest guest
Yipks, An important piece to your puzzle is finding out what the bacteria/organism is that is causing the infection. So make sure that a culture is done and ask your doctor for the results. Both you and your partner may need to be tested and treated if the infection is an STD to prevent reoccurrence. If you have had UTI's all your life it's important to have a few medical tests to find the cause. any obstruction may predispose you. Renal stones, posterior valves....ect. Without removing the cause - you will not solve the problem. The most common kind of infection is Eshericha coli (E.coli for short).this bacteria normally grows in your GI track. Kids that wipes backwards after having a BM will often give themselves an E.coli UTI. Sexually active adults may have a similar problem if they have multiple positioning's that may transfer the bacteria. I teach prevention - to have both partners wash well before and after sex, (genital area) and for the female to urinate after sexual intercourse. Cranberry and blueberry juice contain proanthocyanidins which prevents bacterial adherence to the bladder wall thus reducing the development of UTI. The bacteria need to adhere to the bladder wall to reproduce and to avoid getting washed out of the bladder. so it's a great weapon of defense for us with treatment. _Does cranberry juice prevent or treat urinary tract infection? - Clinical Inquiries Journal of Family Practice - Find Articles_ (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0689/is_2_52/ai_97724151) It's important to realize that most commercial cranberry juices contains large amount of sugars so best to stay away from these while treating you UTI. You can mix the pure juice with some apple juice for sweetness if the taste bothers you or take it in pill form. One example is Nature's Secret " Ultimate Urinary Cleanse with Cranberry " it's an OTC here and cost about $12.00 from a health food store. I also recommend probiotics. they will help reculture your good flora which gets killed by frequent antibiotic use and which helps immunity when strong and present. One probiotic species is good but more than three is the best and has more efficacy. Again go to your health food store. Prevention is the best medicine - but if you already have a full infection - you may need to also use an antibiotic to protect your kidney's from reflux. Drink lots of water on a regular basis and use your natural regime on a regular basis before you get a UTI. val
