After a few months of sobriety, every joint in my body seemed to ache at one time or another. Climbing the stairs was very painful, as was bending. But, it didn't last very long, fortunately. Maybe a few weeks or so. Then it went away and never came back. I've heard from many people who have gotten sober that this happened to them also. Please don't give up. It's really worth staying clean. Best of luck.
Guest guest
Don't they have pain medication that is sopposed to be non-addictive. Toradol is great. Its a very, very strong hospital strength motrin that you need to get from a doctor. When I had my last surgery that helped me better then the moraphin and diluded pain meds they give you. Also Ultraset helps. Good Luck direwollff <direwollff wrote: this message is really simple: I need to deal with pain as a recovering addict and besides lots and i mean LOTS of motrin, hot baths and elavating my legs I don't know what to do please help. Guest guest
Put a cup of Epson salt in your bath water & soak for at least 30 minutes. Epson salt has magnesium in it which will help relax your muscles. Omega 3 fatty acids help control pain by depressing the prostoglandins in your body that feed inflammatin, which is associated with pain. So take at least 2 to 4 grams of fish oil caps a day. Flax seed oil will help also. Raw walnuts have omega 3 fatty acids in them so they would be a good snack. Grass fed beef has much more omega 3 fat than grain fed beef. (2/1 vs 20/1 omega 6/3) Canned salmon or sardines are also a good source or omega 3 fatty acids. In some studies, patients with bad discs found significant reduction in pain with omega 3 supplementation. Heavy use of vegetable oils, which has omega 6 fats (and little or no omega 3) in them will actually cause more inflammation if you are not getting enough omega 3 fats to balance your intake. Use olive oil instead of vegetable oils. Vitamin, mineral supplements will help you, too. If you are deficient in anything, your body will not heal properly. Taking supplements will help insure you get enough of anything you might need. The B vitamins, especially B6 will help your nerves. Exercise will help your back. Keeping the muscles that support your spine strong will help a lot. A good chiropractor can also give you relief. I've never used it myself, but a lot of people say they get very good pain relief with Noni juice. Take an ounce several times a day. It has a lot of bromelain in it, which is anti-inflammatory. In one study, it was reported to be 75% as effective as morphine for pain relief. Be very careful with using the motrin on a daily basis. It can weaken the protective lining in your stomach so that the stomach acid will then cause an ulcer. Any of the NSID pain relievers or aspirin will do this. Guest guest
It is true that pain increases 10 fold while in the immediate recovery period of addiction. If this is the case, coffee enemas speed up this process and detoxes rapidly. However, if your pain is a continuing pain condition and you are looking for other, more natural methods of pain relief to avoid narcotics, there is a product called " Zyflamend " by New Chapter or " Headache Relief " also by New Chapter that are mainly spice extracts and work tremendously well for pain (I had a client who said they both worked as well as vicodin for pain). You can take 4 to 6 at a time, depending on the severity of the pain. You should be able to get these at any health food store or online. Good luck - Kathleen Saturday, December 09, 2006 11:52 AM Re: back pain (lumbar myelopathy, sciatica) relief for recovering addict , " direwollff " <direwollff wrote: > > this message is really simple: I need to deal with pain as a recovering > addict and besides lots and i mean LOTS of motrin, hot baths and > elavating my legs I don't know what to do please help. > I don't know how early in recovery you are, but the same thing happened to me when I got sober.
