helps with stomach problems and other ailments. It is popular as a tea in Japan.

It is currently being investigated for possible benefits in Alzheimer's disease,

Cancer and Liver Disorders. Tumeric, has been found to be beneficial for

neurodegenerative diseases including Multiple sclerosis.

authoritative body that determined which herbs could be safely prescribed in

that country and for which purpose) approved tumeric for a variety of

digestive disorders. Curcumin, for example, one of the active ingredients in

tumeric, induces the flow of bile, which helps break down fats. In a study,

extracts of tumeric root reduced secretion of acid from the stomach and

protected against injuries such as inflammation along the stomach (gastritis) or

intestinal walls and ulcers from certain medications, stress, or alcohol.

up of atherosclerosis (blockage of arteries that can eventually cause a heart

attack or stroke) in one of two ways. First, an extract of tumeric lowered

cholesterol levels and inhibited the oxidation of LDL ( " bad " ) cholesterol.

Oxidized LDL deposits in the walls of blood vessels and contributes to the

formation of atherosclerotic plaque. Tumeric may also prevent platelet build up

along the walls of an injured blood vessel. Platelets collecting at the site of

a damaged blood vessel cause blood clots to form and blockage of the artery as

well.

damaging substances such as carbon tetrachloride and acetominophen (also called

paracetamol, this medication, used commonly for headache and pain, can cause

liver damage if taken in large quantities or in someone who drinks alcohol

regularly.) Tumeric accomplishes this, in part, by helping to clear such toxins

from the body and by protecting the liver from damage.

layer of the eye between the sclera [white outer coat of the eye] and the retina

[the back of the eye]) suggests that curcumin may prove to be more effective as

corticosteroids, the type of medication generally prescribed for this eye

disorder. The uvea contains many of the blood vessels that nourish the eye.

Inflammation of this area, therefore, can affect the cornea, the retina, the

sclera, and other important parts of the eye.

A most wonderful herb. Very interesting: Tumeric is antiinflamatory and blocks the same enzyme (COX-2) that vioxx and celebrex do. However, tumeric will not kill you. Tumeric has been shown to be of use in cancer, auto immune diseases, and as a general tonic. Assuming you are healthy, you might want to take a 6 week regimen of tumeric capsules (one a day) for general health to see if you feel better.

Osiyo Tony!

Hello Tony!

I do not believe that one capsule a day is enough to get the desired effect.

I take four '0' size caps daily. 2 morn & 2 night and increase to 3 and 3 for periods of extreme grating pain.

I purchase the turmeric in pound lots and capsulate my self. About 1/10 the cost of Celebrex and no dangerous or fatal side effects.

Now what it does for me:

My hands and feet do not hurt as bad during the day and the popping of my middle finger cartilage stops.

Years ago I took Celebrex and stopped before the Vioxx scare. When I started the turmeric regimen my level of relief took about two weeks to settle out which was/is better than the Celebrex could do.

Celebrex: Get off it immediately. Take the following: 1) Ginger root twice a day (2 capsules each time) 2) Fish Oil (max dosage on bottle) 3) Tumeric Extract (as directed on the bottle. In this case use the extract of you can find it). 4) Lay off dairy products. 5) Try to eat as organic as possible.

Get on board. You're invited to try the new Mail.

Bob, I was refering to one capsule a day of the herb as a tonic. for inflamatory or auto immune conditions you will need much more of the herb and preferably the extract.

  • 2 months later...

I take 2 capsules 3 times a day, somedays more and some less. Your body will

tell you what you need. I felt relief right away, however for hubby it took a

few days. I make my own size " OO " capsules. It works like Vioxx but won't kill

you.
