Go Into Labor

Hi -

I've been there! Being induced is not fun....

OK - don't get grossed out- try having sex (probably the last thing on your mind

right now). My doctor suggested this one. Eating spicy food worked for my

sister. And I know someone who took mineral oil to get things moving, but I

don't know if I would recommend this.

Walking helps a lot. And like Maureen said, even though iot may be the

last thing you are interested in at the moment, having an orgasm

releases hormones that can naturally start labour. You don't have to

have sex per se, just get the release. That's the important part in the

process for this purpose.

Another point to consider is that you may just be too worried (having

gone through an induced labour before) and the stress is creating the

hold. Try inhaling some essential oils that will relax you such as Rose,

Sandalwood, Frankincense, Lavender. Vetivert is also good, it is a deep

relaxant. Rose and Clary Sage are two oils that have been used to aide

in Child birth for centuries.

Good luck and happy parenting!

I have been induced in all of my 4 pregnancies. The last one was a little

extreme I think, but it worked. They knew each time I was ready, but this last

time they gave me a little bit of castor oil to drink. It was no much. Only

like 2 tablespoons. I would drink it with juice because of the aftertaste, but

I tell you..makes you run to the bathroom alot, but that didn't help me much as

it did put me into labor, but everytime I had to use the bathroom from it, I

ended up having a major contraction. Now my one doctor who was a specialist

told my husband and I ....that if your membranes have ruptured...Have sex, but

make sure that he makes a " deposit " ...Something in the semen makes one come

into labor. This is ONLY though for the ones that have had the membranes break.

Walking does help too, but I tell ya, if you feel like I felt with all that

pressure down there from the head dropping. Walking is not on your mind. LOL.

This was years ago, since my daughter will be 20 in the Spring, but:

I was 3 weeks overdue with my first child. I had a very high pressure, high

stress job at the time, and my guess is that this had something to do with the

delay. finally my dr. made me quit working and relax, but still nothing

happened, so we scheduled the inducement for 9am on a Monday morning. I went

into labor Sunday night and our daughter was born at 8:36 am. I thought that

it was simply the combination of reduced stress from work and from worrying

about not going into labor. My doctor, who was actually quite miffed to be

called in before the scheduled inducement, asked me what I'd had for dinner the

night before. I had had a salad and the doctor commented that it was probably

the balsamic vinaigrette that caused the labor to begin. I thought she was

joking until I was pregnant with my third child, and having some premature labor

signs. My doctor at the time was a different doctor in a totally different

city. This doctor insisted that I cut out any contact with balsamic vinegar to

reduce the chances of premature labor. I don't know if it worked, but I made no

other changes to my diet or activities at that time, and my daughter was born

pretty much on schedule (3 weeks early). So maybe there is something to it.

Anyway, a balsamic vinaigrette salad is pretty nutritious and it probably won't

hurt you!

With both of my pregnancies I have used a product called prenatal

from Dr. Christophers. It used to be called PN-6. It is an amazing

blend of herbs that will make your labor so much easier!! I also

used evening primrose oil. I took it orally and (yes I know it

sounds gross) vaginally. But I only had 4 hours of labor total. It

took 45 minutes to go from a 3 to an 8 and when it came time to push

I only had to push twice. You can find these at a good nutrition

store. Plus my husband is a chiropractor and did acu-pressure

points on my ankle and hand. If you know of a good accupuncturist

they can do some good stuff. Good luck!
