Guest guest
Ok here is my question. I had a complete hysterectomy in 95. I was on " regular traditional HRT " for over a year. I did not do well on it and they were never able to balance my estrogen whether it was with a pill or a patch. I have recently heard of a " plant derived " inplant for estrogen and testosterone (I never realized women needed that... haha) for 56 I guess I'm pretty uninformed... However, I just had blood drawn to see what my hormonal levels were and it came back as NON EXISTANT... NO estrogene and no Testosterone.. They said my FSH or FHS ( not sure what it's called) was HIGH becuase my pituitary gland was working overtime to try and balance my hormones. Has anyone else heard of this technique or is having it done. I am going to the doctor on Dec 8 (or sooner if a cancellation is available) to have this done. It is supposed to last for 3-4 months, and every 3-4 months I will go back and they will check my hormone levels again to make sure I am doing well, and then have another implant that will last for up to 6 months ( which would mean twice a year I'd have the implant) but I am hearing that it generally is more like every 3-4 months. I am interested in anyone contacting me that has heard of this proceedure or has used it. I have heard good things from everyone I have asked about it (including 3 people who have it done on a regular basis)... However, one of them works for the doctor and the other lady I only met once and have never talked to her since. She was the one that suggested it, but then I never heard from her again. So I am asking for input on this, before I have it done. ALSO, One of the doctors has been doing this for 26 years, the other one (who was trained by the first one I mentioned) has only been doing it for 4 years. If you were me which one would you go to? Right now I have an appointment with the one that could get me in the fastest and he is the one who has been doing it for 4 years. I'm open to suggestions, information, and how it affected others who may have had this technique... It's supposed to be all natural, according to them all hormones are PLANT DERIVED.. don't ask me how they get estrogen or testosterone from a plant.... I do know that SOY is part of it, because they asked if I was allergic to soy in anyway. which I am not. I drink soy milk and eat soy nuts all the time. So there you have it... If you want to email me off group, that is fine. I just would like some input as soon as possible, so I can make an informed decision, on what others have also experienced if any of you have.... Thanks... This is a great group for getting all kinds of info. I love reading the posts. If I ever have any experience with any of the topics I will be sure to give you my input as well. Look forward to hearing from as many of you that are willing to give me input. Health and Blessings Gail
Guest guest
Gail: My wife had a historectomy at 25, she is now 46. She takes Black Cohosh and it works very well for her. It is a natural form of estrogen derived from the root of a tree. If she misses a couple of days she will develop breast tenderness so it is very evident it works. She cannot go without it. As long as she takes it she has no symtoms or hot flashes and that kind of thing and we have seen no side effects from taking it long term thus far. Do not take synthetic estrogen like estratab. Those type harmones are made from pregnant horse pee and do not work well for humans. Synthetic harmones will cause fibroid tumors in your breast after a period of a few years. My wife took it for the first 5 or 6 years and that is what happened to her and that is how I know this. She took herself off of them and switched to black cohosh. She went for a physical about 7 or 8 years ago and the doctor fussed her out when he found out she had switched. She went back again 2 years ago and he ask her what she was using and she told him the black cohosh. He said " great " , I just went to a medical siminar in North Carolina last week and the latest findings are that the synthetic harmones cause fibroids and the black cohosh does not so it appears to be the best alternative for estrogen replacement. He had evidently forgot the previous check up when he fussed her out. Doctors are not always right but most people believe everything they say, they only go by the information they have been given and it is not always correct. It is usually directly connected to what the drug companies want to sell and what profits them the most, not what is the most cost effective or best for the person taking it. You know your body and you know when something is working or not, make your own judgement about any treatment. If you decide to take Black Cohosh I would suggest starting off taking several (3 or 4) caps a day and adjust the dosage to the way your body responds. If breast tenderness or hot flashes happen take more until you find the correct dosage for you. Go back and have your harmones checked again after taking it for 3 or 4 weeks. Black cohosh is derived from the root of a plant, it is ground up and look like a fine powder. Cost about 3 or 4 dollars a bottle and you can buy it at any health food store, walmart, and many other places. A bottle will last several weeks. It has recently become pretty common and easily found and a popular alternative for menopausal women. If you choses to go this route it can save you from having to do the implants. Guest guest
I am experiencing the same thing - thyroid having probs because of lack of hormones due to radical hysterectomy (because of cancer). I am just now looking into bio-identical hormones and hear only good things. I am not sure how they work when you are not looking to have periods again etc. also if you have had cancer. But I am doing acupuncture for the symptoms and it does seem to be helping. I am not sure how the body compensates or eventually balances if you don't do something hormonal. Guest guest
Hi - Having had estrogen positive breast cancer, I am very careful about any kind of hormones or hormone-like substances. You should really do your research when it comes to this. You will find all kinds of opinions - pros and cons. I went to this website. This woman is one of best known authorities on breast cancer - I was treated at the breast cancer center she founded. I tend to agree with her.... but everyone should make thier own well-informed decision on what is right for them. http://www.susanlove.com/breastcancer/content.asp?CATID=62 & L2=1 & L3=6 & L4=0 & PID= & s\ id=132 & cid=586 Maureen down2earthspirit Wed, 29 Nov 2006 12:50 PM Re: BioIdentical Hormones I am experiencing the same thing - thyroid having probs because of lack of hormones due to radical hysterectomy (because of cancer).
