Guest guest
i have some VERY strong opinions on THIS one! i started with a tsh of over 40. my thyroid continued to worsen, as i have hashi's, it just kept dying more and more. i first took levoxyl, a generic T4 synthetic, like synthroid. my dose just kept going up and up, but i didn't feel any better. few of my symptoms abated. did research and added cytomel to the mix. i was a little better, but not well. not like i knew i should be. although, for the first time in about 5 years or so, i was able to really sweat. that was cool. so, more research, and switched to armour. WOW!! my hair grew back. my nails grow, although they're still kind of weak. my skin became much dewier, more youthful. my periods regulated themselves. i lost 20 lbs. effortlessly and it stays off. i'm able to lose weight if i put effort or thought into it, unlike before. i no longer nap in the afternoons on a regular basis. i'm less puffy. my mental clarity improved significantly and now i only need antacids right before my period when things get a little out of whack. my digestion is much improved. i go to the bathroom regularly. my blood sugar is much more stable. my eyebrows even thickened up a little. i stopped getting bladder infections and yeast infections. cuts healed normally, not taking forever. in short, i got my life back mostly. now, you would have to pry armour from my cold, dead fingers! in fact, i now live in china, and they don't import here, so i go to the states once a year and set up my prescription with my doctor, and have it shipped twice a year from home. oh yeah, this one, esp. if you have " severe " thyroid malfunction, is the only way to go, as it gives you the full spectrum of hormone replacement. i am almost completely dependent on artificial replacement, so armour is the best for me. Guest guest
Dear Laura , My experience with this type of medication was one that I was forced to change because of my reaction . For years I took a thyroid medication that was called Euthroid and they stopped making it and my doctor put me on Sythroid and it elevated my blood pressure . I then got off of it as it was more damaging for me than I was willing to continue with . Then I sought other natural support for my issue with Synthroid and have never taken any medication only natural support for my self . I have friends that have taken the Amour thyroid and it seems that they have had to stay with it after beginning it. It seems to be stronger than others are my friends have said that to me. Hope this helps you.. Many Blessings to you , Betty > Has any one had any experience with either of these and would you care > to share your experiences pro or con? Guest guest
Laura, I was on synthroid for nearly 15 years. I recently switched to Armour and I'm feeling more normal . . .sleeping better, more energy, etc. There is a thyroid group on which could answer all your questions regarding this issue. Guest guest
I've heard wonderful things about Armour in people as well as pets (dogs, but even cats which previously thought not to go hypo). I know someone whose own M.D. will not switch her to Armour and she's really struggling with the T4 supplements alone. It's not uncommon for people and animals to be unable to convert the T4 into active hormone (T3). So the T4 just sits there. I really wish that Armour was prescribed more than it seems to be since it already has the T3 in it. Glad to hear that you are feeling so much better, wish it had been sooner though for your sake! Guest guest
I was originally on Synthroid. For some reason my symptoms didn't go away. I was then put on Armour. I liked it, but after a few months my symptoms came back. My doctor then changed to a combination of Synthroid and Armour. For some reason my body likes the combination. The problem is you have to find a doctor that is willing to try different things to find the right fit. My endocrinologist refused to use Armour. That's when I changed to a young asian female M.D. that seems to be on the cutting edge of medicine. She seems to realize that everyone's body isn't the same. That's one thing I wish all doctors understood that is it works for one person it doesn't mean it'll work for everyone else. Good luck! Guest guest
There is an excellent forum specially on thyroid problems at about.com. And on that forum is an interview with Dr Viana Muller, another good person bringing the botanical riches of South America to the world. The superfood MACA appears to be good for both hyper and hypo thyroid conditions. One of my mottos is: Don't tweak, nourish! That is especially true when we are dealing with the sensitive feedback loop of our hormonal systems. Here is the link to the interview. thyroid.about.com/cs/alternativehelp/a/maca.htm - 22k Ien in the Kootenays ***************************** Saving the Rainforest with each cup of tea http://wildhealing.net *****************************
Guest guest
The Endocinologist that was recommended to me refuses to prescribe Armour. My " regular " doctor, however worked with me on a Synthroid/Armour combo to get the right balance of T3:T4 for me. I never went back to the other Doctor, if I'm paying someone to work with me on my health I want someone who listens. Everyone is different and going on test results alone doesn't work if you still don't feel right. , " Michele " <michele wrote: > > I've heard wonderful things about Armour in people as well as pets > (dogs, but even cats which previously thought not to go hypo). > > I know someone whose own M.D. will not switch her to Armour and she's > really struggling with the T4 supplements alone. > It's not uncommon for people and animals to be unable to convert the > T4 into active hormone (T3).
