Guest guest
Hi, I'm a brand new member of this group and also have advanced training from Upledger in CranioSacral Therapy. The vast majority of people I see think the work is wonderful and have no adverse reactions. However, what you describe can happen. I have a couple of thoughts on it. First, there's an emotional component to CranioSacral Therapy. The theory is that emotional energy can be stored in the tissues, which can actually have an effect on the physical body. There is a technique called SomatoEmotional Release (SER) that specifically deals with releasing this stored emotional energy. If someone receives a structural treatment without going into the SER component, it's possible that some of the emotional piece was stirred up, but not released fully, thus leading to the uncomfortable feelings later on. Another possibility is that the person actually had a delayed SER, did release some emotional energy (which is good), and was working through that emotional component several hours after the session. How did your son do the next day or two after the treatment? Sometimes that temporary increase in emotions can be exactly what that body needs. If the treatments were all " just structural " and this happens without any eventual change for the better, I'd recommend finding someone who is comfortable working in the SER mode and try again. It does sound like some changes happened, both with your son and your friend. And sometimes CranioSacral Therapy is just not the best match if it stirs stuff up too much. I've never seen anyone who became permanently worse with this technique, nor is it contraindicated in people with emotional issues, quite the contrary. Overall, it is generally very helpful in a wide variety of ailments, including those with an emotional basis. Hope this helps, Marge ---------- , " castleboys3 " <castleboys3 wrote: > > My now 17 yr old son had this back when he was in 6th grade; so > around 12 yrs old. > > OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) had begun that year, pretty bad. > He was seeing an occupational therapist for some motor skill help and > she was also trained in the craniosacral and recommended it.
