In the files under articles is Ailments and remedies...... and it says:

Hives: Echinacea Plus Formula; Nerve Formula; Deep Tissue Repair Oil Formula; The Total Body Cleanse Program.

I would definitely do a cleanse if this has been going for 3 years.

Another thing I might add to this regimen is a 100 Mg of Niacin per day. The first thing you'll notice are the hives turning on dramatically for a day or three and then disappearing forever ;o)

I was getting chronic hives for about six months and also stomach pains and

so I went to see my naturopath who put me on a very strict regimen for a

month of whole foods, no sugar, no oils except olive or butter, tons of fresh

veggies and whole grains and I can't remember what else, and lo and behold,

my hives disappeared, as did the stomach pains!! This is now the way I eat

and has been for almost a year now and I think I got maybe one hive once

or twice in all that time and that's probably becaause I unwittingly ate

whatever it was that had triggered the hives.

I haven't heard seen any mention of diet here so that's the first place I'd

look. Hives are an allergic response so the first place I'd look is to my

diet if they're that chronic!

Hi! I also have hives (for almost 8 years now!) Mine started when I

got pregnant with my little girl and never went away! I have been

ested for all the " big " problems it can be a symptom to and had my

results come back completely " healthy! " If you would like email me

directly we can compare notes (adaffron). I have found

that putting Patchouli essential oil directly on the hives sometimes

helps. It atleast smells good too! Does anyone know of anything

else?

Before I discovered what Quercetin could do I used to use Tea

Tree Oil on my skin. I slathered it on, and put on a clean shirt, as

my back was the part most affected. It has a very cooling effect,

and is antiseptic as well.

About 15 years ago I started breaking out in hives. They were all over me

and 2+ inches in diameter. It was not fun.

As a temporary way to stop itching, someone suggested using Alka-Seltzer. I

let them fizz in the water and drank them up. It worked but no one ever

could tell me why. I figured if I knew why they worked I would figure out

what caused the hives in the first place.

I later figured out thru trial, error and LOTS of itching that it was all

caused by what I had always thought was 'innocent'. I had been drinking

sodas. They aren't so innocent. I learned that no matter what brand or

type soda you have they have to preserve it to keep it from growing mold and

who knows what else.

I stopped drinking the sodas and the hives went away with them. They return

occasionally when I eat at a friend's house. Usually it's the preservatives

in the food they served. I'm getting to where I'm almost afraid to eat some

things. Commercial foods are FULL of preservatives and who knows what else.

I guess I'm trying to say that your hives are most likely your body

screaming at you to stop using/drinking/eating something. You need to

figure out what it is and remove it.

*sigh*

Absolutely. I found this out the hard way, too. The preservative I have to watch out for is 202, also called Potassium Sorbate. It can be found in soaps, shampoos, dairy products, bakery products, soft drinks (sodas), cordials, fruit juices... You name it. It has severely restricted my diet and what I can wash myself and my clothes in.

Ironically, 202 is used to stop foods (or whatever) from going mouldy. It's antifungal/anti-mould - and I'm allergic to mould as well!

So if it is something you're eating and you can't figure out what, yet you have the same problem with other products like shampoo, check the labels. It's not always listed as 202 - it can be listed by its proper name, Potassium Sorbate. It's also in things like cheese slices, frozen pasties, doughnuts, fruit drink concentrates as well as "freshly squeezed" juices. Check everything. I have to, but it's worth it.

These days I always carry antihistamines on me. If I don't get onto the reaction quickly, the hives affect my airways - being asthmatic to boot doesn't help - and my throat swells, and I'm off to hospital. It pays to read everything before you use/eat it.

Wow! A couple of weeks is a very long time for hives imo. Is this common

for you? I'd try to get at what you are allergic to.

If you are uncomfortable you can make a paste with distilled water or a

little chamomile or lavender hydrosol if you have some mixed with finely

ground organic oats. make a paste and apply for relief. Use a clean

coffee grinder.

Other ways to soothe the reaction are applying organic whole milk plain

yogurt or pure aloe vera- without additives If you have organic

Chamomile, roman or Lavender, angustifolia a couple of drops total can

be added to either the yogurt or aloe.

Is the molasses you are using unsulphured and organic?

Is there anything else you could be allergic to? Any cleansers? Other

products? Foods?

As far as Molasses I don't know which Doc recommends for PP. My liver is

not happy with all that iron- so I will want to substitute I believe-

Doc?

Sulphured molasses is the by product of sugar making- the fumes used in

manufacturing the sugar are retained as sulphur in the molasses.

Unsulphured is made from the juice of the sugar cane or sugar beet.

Light molasses is made from the first boiling of the cane, dark molasses

is from the second, and blackstrap from the third. Blackstrap is strong,

but a great source of iron and calcium. They are available organic or

non organic.

Elizabeth,

The hives have not 'stayed' for 2 weeks, but I have been having breakouts for about that long. I rarely get hives and the only real difference I can think of in my diet (or anything else) has been the addition of TT and PP.

I have organic unsulphered molasses (unfortunately, not certified. But it was all I could find).

Try the remedies I sent you. Not all at once lol! Keep your diet

simple...increase your intake of pure water by a lot if you can.

Perhaps eliminate them both PP and TT for 24 hrs or until no hives and

then slowly introduce one at a time- very gradually increasing from a

tiny amount and backing off if you have a reaction.... and drink lot's

of fluids so your urine is clear/colorless.

I'd also eat plain yogurt and use it on my skin to soothe...and the

oatmeal paste which can go on your face and also go in the bath. A raw

cucumber soup sounds very soothing to me.

Do you have a good quality Aloe vera? Yogurt? Oatmeal? Lavender and

Chamomile?

I think you just need to flush " it " out. And take it easy ;-)

Have you been out in the sun?? That could be the issue too.

Get some rest...me too....What are we doing up!?

Elizabeth

Hi Sherri,

Thought I would share this with you, I don't know whether it will help with

the skin, but I think it will help it not come back.

I developed a severe allergic reaction to some food a few weeks ago and

broke out in lumps, bumps and welts all over. I have to dash into a chemist

and get some anti-histamine, which I am not too keen on.

I was at the New Zealand Aromatherapy conference and we had a naturopath as

one of the speakers. She heard about what had happened, and this was her

advice, which has worked very well for me......I had been having these

breakouts for a few weeks. I took one teaspoon of Vitamin C powder (

ascorbic acid) in a glass of water every hour until I got loose bowels. It

took about 4 times for me, but the Vit C removes the histamines from your

system. I have had no problems since, although as I am tapping away here, I

can feel itches and I know it is psychosomatic.!!!

Hives

While I'm here begging for knowledge, I figured I'd ask about this as

well...

I had a severe allergic reaction a week and a half ago - massive hives

over about 50% of my body. The worst of it is finally over now, but my

skin looks a mess. There are blotches all over the place that are

discoloured, though no longer raised or itchy. My doc says it will take

a couple of weeks (or more) for my skin to heal, but I'm hoping someone

might have suggestions about what I could do to speed that process. The

worst of it is on my legs, and it's really annoying to have to avoid

wearing skirts to work during the summer!

Hives occur due to either a nervous condition or a

systemic allergy. You can develop allergies to just

about anything, even things you've eaten or been

around from childhood. I suggest that you surf the

web and check out the food allergy sites and begin

some of the routines that's outlined to help you find

out what you are allergic to. After you discover the

problem, you can read up on general nutrition and

cleansing which will help boost your immune system

(hopefully) back to normal. J

My wife has used Quercetin with great success in getting chronic hives

to stop. It took about two weeks. From what I know, this is what other

people have experienced. Apparently, it helps with generally reducing

a person's allergy response. We also intially used some healing clay,

to give her relief from the itching and stop the scratching. She was

able to sleep through the night with using the clay, until the

Quercetin kicked in. Up to the point, we had tried many conventional

treatments. Im sure others have some good suggestions.

Add to that list:

Food colorings. I have a patient who found certain yellows and reds caused

him various allergic reactions for years. Even a small amount (in a cheap

vitamin, for instance) is enough to give him asthma and hives.

Also, another patient with recalcitrant hives stopped having them after

ceasing to use her family's hot tub... probably a staph reaction.

while i agree that if one identifies the allergen in hives one can simply treat

it by avoiding exposure. I have to say that i have treated about 25 cases just

with herbs. Most have done quite well. It is more difficult in cases that have

lasted for many years however.

The bioflavonoid quercetin makes an excellent antihistamine. It is sold

in health food stores in capsules. One capsule as needed is the

recommended dose.

While there are remedies you can take to help with the " suffering "

from hives, the only actual way to be rid of them is to identify

the " triggering " source(s) and remove them.

Chemical pharmaceuticals are very common causes of hives (even if

you've taken them before without a problem). They can even be a side-

effect of the " anti-histamine " drugs they use to " treat " hives.

Other common causes of hives can be laundry and/or household cleaning

chemicals, synthetic fabrics and/or fabric treatments in

clothes/bedding, chemical food additives, chemicals in skin/hair care

products/cosmetics etc.

Most people think that only " natural " irritants can cause hives, like

pollens, cat hair, grasses, dust, foods, etc. But the chemical ones

can also cause symptoms.

If you haven't figured out what is causing them to begin with, it may

take alot of " detective " work (and reading of ingredients on

foods/skin care/fabric labels etc) to find relief.

Why has there been no mention of the liver. What happens when this organ is

overloaded and cannot fulfill its duty? The answer is that the skin takes

on the duty of eliminating the toxin. Why not look to dredge or cleanse the

liver (good idea in the spring)? Recommend you check out the works of Dr.

LV would seem logical but the pattern to my mind does not fit.

By rights it should be LU injures LV. If this were so, it would be LU as

primary element and

LV as secondary.

The quick movement of the urticaria patches tends to a LV pattern, as

does Heat, but the location

and the trajectory does not fit, LV would tend to Head and Eyes,

internally to subcostal, and

Upper Warmer.

If this were a LV Countering LU, it would come in a much later stage and

there would be very

many more dramatic symptoms.

If LV were dredged, made Deficient, LU, which is already in an

Aggressing mood, would

basically maraud LV and precipitate serious problems.

Even if it is Spring, a simple cleanse, while laudable by it's own self,

would not be welcome to this

pattern.

More thought?

What happens to the blood clinically when the liver cannot filter out the

toxins? Our western and eastern training would seem to show a connection

with the liver and that problems here can lead to problems with the skin.

The signs of lung seem inappropriate as there was no mention of cough and

illness without this important respiratory sign and other symptoms cannot be

a pattern of the lung zang (Nan Jing). As Zev has pointed out before, it is

important that we use the correct set of theory for the pattern. Has anyone

checked with the Wen Bing to see about patterns? Dr. Bernard Jensen worked

with many patients like this and successfully used nutrition (raw foods) and

supplements to heal and rebuild tissue. The cooling effects of these would

greatly help this type of hot condition.

Hope this helps.

Buffered (w/calcium) Vitamin C since this vitamin is a natural antihistamine (and an immune system aid). But she needs to pay attention to when and why she gets hives. Hives is usually an allergic reaction. Or it can be stress, or even an immediate temperature change such as being overheated and then dowsing one's self with cold water. She should probably take Vit. C every day since she is prone to hives.

The Doctors have tried everything and she still has them. Cortisone doesn't touch them. Neither does antibotics. They don't hurt just itch. And noone likes red splotches. She never knows when they will break out. Any suggestions?

Hello:

I have had the hives since Friday. I've never had them in my life. I

went to immediate care on Saturday morning and was prescribed a 7

day dose of prednisone. Then on Sunday, the hives were so bad that I

had to go to the ER. I was given a shot of epinephrine and a shot of

hydroxyzine (sp?). I must now carry an Epi pen with me because Ihad

hives in my throat too.

Today (Monday) I'm still covered in the itchy red patches and

feeling a bit nauseaous. I can't think of one thing that I've done

differently over the past couple of days to trigger something this

awful. I've pretty much been home all weekend too. Could this be

something internal and hives are just a reaction? I'm completely

stumped. I don't have any known allergies to anything or even to

most meds. I don't currently take any meds.

Can someone all of a sudden just develop an allergy to something

that they've been around their whole life??

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

It is very common to develop an allergy to ANYTHING at any moment. An

allergy represents a corruption of the immune system.

Also, unless you live in a bubble, it is very possible that you have been

exposed to something without realizing it. The EPA recently reported to

Congress that indoor air pollution represents the biggest personal

environmental threat to our health today. Some cleaning chemical in a

grocery store could have hit your liver with just enough molecules to

overload your ability to detoxify in comfort.

And then we won't even get into the health impact of the drugs you just took

and how long they'll linger in your system.

I have had clients work at hair salons for years without any " symptoms. " One

day they break out in hives doing a color job with the same chemicals

they've used for years. At that point, the body is simply on overload. It

didn't appear that way before because that's how it is with most symptoms.

In many cases I have recommended 3 months of a vegetarian diet and some

high-quality nutritional supplements to help limit exposure to things that

burden the body (e.g., all forms of animal products, refined foods,

preservatives, microwave heated anything) and support the nutritional needs

of the body while it works to heal. This alone has amazing results in about

80% of the people I've suggested it to.
