Guest guest
Hi, I'm a newbie here--I've been actively interested in holistic health care and alternative therapies for the past 15-20 years, but somehow had overlooked this . I have a homeopath for my cats but not for myself. So it will not surprise you to hear that my success rate with the cats is much better. But I can barely afford to take care of the cats these days, so when it comes to my own health it's either use the services my insurance will pay for or fake it. At the moment, I'm faking it. Four days ago (Monday) my throat became irritated and I developed a " tickle cough, " unusual for me. I thought it might be due to fumes from some painting done in my office the previous Friday. The cough continued, an almost completely unproductive hack that was becoming annoying and tiring and making my chest and back sore. I consulted my homeopathy books ( " lay " references by Hershoff and Ullmann) and the remedy finder at abchomeopathy.com and they all seemed to point to Phosphorus. That remedy always rings bells with me but I've rarely actually used it. Respiratory conditions are so difficult for me to even begin to repertorize (with no training whatsoever) that I often give up and don't take anything. I was a little more desperate than usual, though, so I took two doses of Phos 30C dissolved in water last night, about 3 hours apart. I had a bad night. After the first dose I thought my nose got a little stuffier. After the second dose, taken right before going to bed, it got much worse, as did the cough. Now I had burning sensations inside the nose and some dull sinus pain, and was compelled to blow my nose for the first time, which produced yellow mucus. This in turn riled up my throat and for the first time, the cough kept me awake for several hours. When I woke up after finally sleeping a few hours in the morning (I go to bed very late) my nose was still quite stuffed, but not that productive, and the passages opened up once I got out of bed. I have only coughed a little, and things seem a bit quieter. I'm wondering what to do now. Of course it is basically a trivial illness but I want to keep it from developing into bronchitis, which tends to hang around forever this time of year. Any idea what the apparent reaction to Phos signifies here? What should I do today--take more Phos? Try something else? Wait? Thanks for any thoughts! -Avalon
Guest guest
Hi Avalon, I'm in the same situation financially and trying to treat myself. It can really be difficult. It has been my experience with homeopathics that the symptoms usually get worse before getting better. Since when you got up your sinuses opened up and things have quieted down it sounds to me like you are on the right track and should continue with the Phos as long as you are having symptoms, unless of course the symptoms change completely then you should reevaluate the remedy. I came to pretty much the same conclusion. I let things be yesterday, and the condition seemed slightly better than it had been. I slept well (for me) last night. But as soon as I woke up today I started hacking, and it went on for a while, so I took another dose of Phos and will probably repeat it at least once before bed. Cross your fingers for me. I absolutely cannot afford to be sick right now because there is a major upheaval in progress at work. Of course, that's more than likely the reason this syndrome developed in the first place. I would love to hear more about your experiences with homeopathic self-care.
