Guest guest
Posted by: " BB " bbes10 bbes10 Tue Nov 21, 2006 9:14 pm ((PST)) My boyfriend was recently diagnosed by my family doctor. He is 35 years old. She directed him to a psychologist for more precise diagnosis, but in the past 2 years he has been through the gammet of medications: lexapro was great but he couldn't sleep, paxil didn't work, and effexor made him practically suicidal. (He is still going through withdrawls after 6 weeks.) Now the family dr put him on Zyprexa, a mood stablizer-2.5 mg the lowest dose. He is a different person-more depressed than ever, raging, unconsoleable. I want to help him-I know St Johns Wort and Kava Kava are not the answers-maybe for some but not him. Can anyone recommend some sort of treatment that will work? Yoga, a better diet, reduced alcohol, etc should help-but there must be some answers. We are left the prey for pharmaceutical companies and frankly, they are taking away his mind! Secondly if possible do yoga and meditation its a good reliever. Medicines are there to cure but as far as possible try to avoid medicine. This is just a suggestion and help to dear friends. Guest guest
Allopathic detox, parasitic detox, nosode detox. He would also need the neurtransmitters balanced and other biofeedback therapies. Removing caffiene, refinded sugars and flours, preservatives, dairy from the diet...all of these contribute to BiPolar depression. My duaghter has Bi-polar and nursing a new baby, being unable to nurse we are using Biofeedback on her and it is working very successfully. After 6 treatments the changes start to become permanent. This is not meant as criticism, we all dash stuff off. Just to assist your thought processes. <Yoga, a better diet, reduced alcohol, etc should help-but there must be some answers. > There is no BUT here. Reduced alcohol and a better diet are at the basis of " the answer " . I am so sorry, there is no single, easy magic natural pill that will take the place of both pharmaceuticals and good diet. Looking for a magic bullet, be it pharmaceutical or nutritional or herbal, is thinking in the pharmaceutical way. Guest guest
Eventually, you will find medication that can help him. I second the idea of sending him to a psychopharmacologist. It also sounds like he may have a drinking problem. Alcohol and drug addiction are not uncommon among bipolars as they are trying to mask the intense emotions they are feeling. He should also see about treatment for that. Proper nutrition and exercise are very important in treating depression. Omega is helpful and certainly accupuncture. I would not rely on those completely. If he needs medication, he should stay on it. Not all meds " deatroy the mind " . I was on fluoxetine years ago for depression, and it was very helpful in lifting my mind up out of a rut and into a place of clarity.
