Guest guest
Hi all! My name's Erin. I have an aunt & cousin who both practice alot of alternative therapies & it's always resonated w/ me. At 26, I've found alot of the 'old ways' come very naturally. Although I've had alot of exposure & have gone to over a dozen conferences over the years (meditation, spirituality, past lives...), I'm still very uneducated about alot of health techniques & terms. But lately I've been particulary curious due to changes since becoming pregnant. At first it was minor things that I can attribute to other things like the onset of acne(which has never been a problem before this 4yr stint), lack of energy, etc. But then I was rear-ended on a major highway about a year ago, so it's just disheartning at this point. I ended up obtained whiplash & the initial physical therapy treatments worked, within a month or so after starting PT, it was managable. Then about a month later I had a 'stress-induced' flareup. This time the PT helped but it still hasn't gone away months later. I've tried playing w/ habits to see if it helps, posture wreckers I call them. I do light to moderate exercise, I know that yoga helps but I haven't added it yet. To be honest I just cry sometimes because this has become my 'normal', being uncomfortable. I've always been a very calm & collected person, to the point that it fired my friends up when dealing w/ obnoxious customers at work, so this is strange terratory for me. So to cut this shorter:-) I have an extruding 3rd vertabrae(that I don't remember before, the doc thinks I just never noticed it), everyday neck tightness & pain that occasionally causes migraines & headaches, if I don't stretch. But it never goes away!? I've tried every anti-inflammitory that he's given me w/ very little relief. Eventually I give up & stop taking it, it just doesn't feel right. But he keeps saying that it's muscular. He's a good doc, tries not to prescribe too much, I'm just fed up. I'm too young to have chronic pain & I can't help thinking that my seemingly unrelated symptoms might be somehow connected. I know I've lost balance staying at home w/ my daughter, but don't know how to apply this to the pain. Someone did recommend cranial-sacrial because I have bruised my tail bone falling so many times. And although the car insurance is paying the bills, they don't cover alot of the things that do help, like massage. Living on one income, we just can't afford it. I came apon you by chance & I've been going thru the archives, they're a great resource! But my question is, how can I find an MD who intigrates medicine? And does any of this ring a bell w/ anyone? Love & Light~Erin (sorry to lay it on so thick!!!)
Guest guest
Go see a massage therapist! They are specialists in getting you to a place where you can manage chronic pain on your own, and they will probably be one of the best bets you have for getting there. Reiki is always a good bet, as tight muscles sometimes are due to blocked energies. Anything like that, or massage, or acupuncture can help get the energy moving and potentially eliminate pain. Guest guest
If you live in a large city, doctors are often listed under physicians--alternative medicine. Also, I googled around once and found a list of alternative healers by area on the net. My daughter is 24, has had arthritic spine since she was about 18 or 19. Being young is no guarantee of having good health. I'm 63 and much healthier than my own children, all of whom have some serious health issues.
