Hi Rox,

I am sure others will be telling you the same thing that I am about to say.

Get Martin Watt's " Plant Aromatics " You can get it from Butch at

http://www.av-at.com

It has the tested eo's and the percents at which they would cause

sensitization and such. It lists out for both perfumes and for leave on

products such as creams or lotions.

Have a happy day,

Margaret

I have heard that post AP pain is common at that location

When needling LI4, some residual sensation (slight numbness or "sleeping hand") just after the treatment is normal, but prolonged pain for days or weeks is not. It is a strong point, to be sure, but any residual sensation shouldn't last very long at all. Depending upon the type of pain they are having, you could have nicked the nerve (or a vein) or needled too deeply or forcefully causing bruising or damage to the muscle tissue (do they have a bruise?). In any event, I would refrain from needling LI4 on that person until it is resolved, use pole moxa with tonifying technique (was not clear what kind of moxa you said you had used) and perhaps needle with anatomical resonance in mind to support the hand (such as needling SP4 and/or LV3 on the opposite foot). You may also want to needle LI7 (xi-cleft point on the LI channel) to ease pain on the channel. Supporting the nervous system by checking in with the LV and GB channels would also be a good idea and if there is bruising, SP10.

Those are a few suggestions. Hope things work out with your patient.

Hi Gina and welcome,

In addition to the acupuncture/moxa techniques others have suggested, you should have your patient use topical liniment and/or medicated plasters over the injured LI4 spot. Two of the better liniments are "Kwan Loon Oil" and "Woodlock". A small amount is gently rubbed in 5-6 times a day. The plasters are even stronger in that they stay on 24-48 hours at a time so they have a sort of "time released" function. You just have to caution your patient about possible skin reactions to plasters which are almost always due to the adhesive rather than the herb essences. Hope your patient gets better,

Traditional (TCM) intro & question

Hi, All,I am a fairly new practitioner in Pasadena, CA. I look forward to jumping into the fray and learning all I can from you more seasoned members, and also other newbies. I do have a question right off the bat, if anyone can help. I have a patient who is experiencing some pain after needling LI4. This hasn't gone away for a couple weeks. I have tried some contra-needling and some moxa. Any other ideas? I have heard that post AP pain is common at that location. I'm hoping it isn't permanent damage to the radial nv.thanks, gina For practitioners, students and those interested in Traditional (TCM) ranging from acupuncture, herbal medicine, tuina and nutrition.Membership rules require that you adhere to NO commercial postings, NO religious postings and NO spam.Web site homepage: Chinese Medicine/

Hi,

By the time you read this, I'll be 39:-)

Anyways, wifey (Leonda) has a thyriod problem, she takes 50 mg's of Levoxin

(commonly known as). Staying with that drug, what could she use to

a: decrease her dependency on sugar laced Iced Coffee

b: increase juice intake

c: gain healthy weight

d: remove dark colored urine (had this for days now)

e: try to quit smoking cigarettes

If any and or all are related to thyriod problems, please let me know.

Alternatives I seek for traditional methods are tried and not true. 17 years

strong.

Leonda is 39 as well. Other than thyriod problems and a strong smokers

cough, healthy.
