Guest guest
hi, i am wondering if anyone out there can help me. as a child i didnt receive my full shots becasue my parents are firm believers in homeopathic and holistic medicines and saw that shots could have very negative effects on children. right now, i am trying to enroll in university - and they say that if i am to attend college full time, the only way to be exempt from my immunizations is either a medical reason or a religous reason... unfortunately i dont really have either that supports my reasoninings (so far i have told my school that i am very religous and therefore i dont do shots, but they are asking me to quote scripture!!!) Has anyone had a similar situation ? and can anyone give me suggestions ? is this legal ? any help will be appreciated, Deb Join me in the fight against MS! Guest guest
Hi Deb, You can not use medical exemptions. So you have to use religious exemptions. State laws on this vary. I sent my 3 children through preschool and school in NYS and then school, college and grad school in Fl. on religious exemptions. You do not need to be part of a particular religious group. It can be based on your individual beliefs in most cases. Look up info on mercola.com and mothering magazine has run articles on this. You should be able to go to your county dept. of health and make out a sworn statement of religious exemption. Then give this form at the university. It will be more difficult to establish your exemption if you tell them you had some shots. Guest guest
so quote some scripture! it's fun, you might like it. 7th day adventists, christian science both are legally exempt. maybe google " evidence against medical intervention from the bible " also mothering magazine has a zillion articles and resources of lawyers and such for this. good luck! also, Deborah Litvin <gubertush wrote: hi, i am wondering if anyone out there can help me. as a child i didnt receive my full shots becasue my parents are firm believers in homeopathic and holistic medicines and saw that shots could have very negative effects on children. right now, i am trying to enroll in university - and they say that if i am to attend college full time, the only way to be exempt from my immunizations is either a medical reason or a religous reason... unfortunately i dont really have either that supports my reasoninings (so far i have told my school that i am very religous and therefore i dont do shots, but they are asking me to quote scripture!!!) Guest guest
Deborah, If it were me I'd talk to an attorney and see if you can get him to write you a letter of some kind. For the most part nobody wants to deal with attorneys and odds are that they will just dummy up and go away. Call around and shop it. You can probably get one to do it pretty cheaply. Guest guest
Deborah - I was trying so hard to keep my mouth shut on this one - however ----- check back on this board's files to Ieneke VanHouten's post re " Flu Shots " - approximately a week ago - print this out and give it to the university and tell them that is why you refuse to take their flu shot. Guest guest
Hi Deborah, I don't know where you are but how it works in Canada to file as a " conscientious objector " is to go to Public Health and have a form filled out. Here we don't have to prove " religious " beliefs but simply say that we are not comfortable with vaccinating. Guest guest
Hi Deb Neither one of my kids had their shots either and both went to college. All that was needed for them was something in writting stating your beliefs, this was written by me and accepted. I stated in my letter my belief was that immunuzations were harmful to the health of my children and i chose regular chiropractic adjustments to maintain health and allow the body to heal itself. Maybe because a chiropractor is a " doctor " , this was used as a medical reason, I don't know, but it was accepted and that was the end of it. When I called the admissions office and asked what the big deal was, I was informed they were protecting all the kids from getting sick by requiring all the students to be vaccinated. I then asked if the vaccinated kids carried immunity to the diseases and got a responding " Oh Yes " . My next question was " If all the other kids are protected from disease, how will allowing my UNvaccinated child to attend school affect them? " That's when I was told they had to have something in writing if I was going to continue to persue this. Stick with what you believe in and never consent to something that will make you ill because of ignorance on the part of the school. You can do this. Good Luck to you. Guest guest
Hi Deb,I have 4 people in my family that are not immunized at all they are healthy smart and beautiful. One nephew that got ONE round of shots and he has mild autism and its a nightmare. It is NOT legal for them to ask you to Quote Scripture!! From what I know you can just write " personal exempt " across the form that asks for dates of immunizations and they are not legally able to do anything to you. It against your inalienable rights for someone to tell you that you have to put infected pigs liver cells that are preserved with mercury into your healthy body or your child's healthy body. You can tell them that you are VEGETARIAN and that the innoculations are made from dead animals for God's sake! The stats on the hepatitus shot that they want to give all newborns goes something like this. Out of 100,000 babies that were vaccinated against Hep B, 57 of them had reported side effects (which mean severe like mental autism or death) and only 14 of them would have been exposed to the virus before they were teenagers!! Its like a science experiment with our kids as the lab rats. And then there's the mercury dose you're getting, which the amount in one shot is probably safe but when they combine 4 or 5 shots the amount of mercury is unbelievable and they passed laws that the drug companies do not have to take the old mercury vaccinations off the shelf because they would lose too much money (nothing about your kids life is more important then the bottom line). But your parents probably already made you aware of all this. So get indignant. They have no right to force you to talk about your religion or your beliefs they need to shut up and do their job, not worry about you doing yours as a parent. I know someone that works in a pediatricians office, she says every single time she has to give the shots she gets sick to her stomach with what could happen, she has faked every one of her kids shot records so that they don't get any kind of flack, because she knows the dates and types of immunizations that every kid gets from working in the field. This is an option. Just lying. Either way it is YOUR choice. Be well. You're already being responsible, so be happy. It makes me happy to hear from parents like you. Guest guest
Deborah, it is illegal for such an entity to question your religious standing. You are not legally required to quote scripture, and their demanding you do so is a violation of your freedom of religion. Anything further than your statement of religious conflict is none of their business and infringes upon your right to privacy. Don't let them bully you. They can be sued on those grounds. If they knew that you know that, they just might back off. good luck.
